Somers Point is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,741 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlantic City metropolitan area. As early as 1795, Somers Point had an arsenal and gunnery school open to students of the military and civilians. In 1816, Philip Schuyler built what became known as "The Fort" on the wharf across from present-day Weehawken High School; this fort served as a training ground for American soldiers during the First Seminole War (1835-1836). In 1854, Captain Nevin Waddell founded The Sporting Club at 361 Third Street in Somers Point to provide sports and social opportunities for men in Monmouth County. Membership totaled over 1,000 by 1860. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln signed Executive Order 6555 giving order to arm all citizens of America with pistols for self-defense until Congress could pass a national firearms law. The first handguns were issued to Marines on April 14th 1865. Before long gun targets were being erected throughout town using local farmsteads and outbuildings for practice purposes only - no real shooting took place until after 1870 when new rifle ranges started opening up around town including Oneonta Rifle & Pistol Range which still stands today (opened June 12th 1912) The manufacture of rifles began in 1871 with John Moses Browning's introduction of his famous "Barrett Rifle." With increasing production came increased demand for target material so manufacturers set up factories specifically designed to make target guns including Sperry Gunmakers who built one factory in Somers Point between 1875-1900 By 1899 they had produced over 10 million rounds per year Finally effective regulation by both state legislatures followed in 1903 leading to prohibition of handgun ownership within 100 feet of any school or playground

In 1821, the first shot was fired at what is now Somers Point in New Jersey. The guns used in this event were a cannon and muzzle loader from British forces stationed in the area. The town of Somers Point was founded in 1795 by John Swenarton, who named it after his home town of Sunderland, England.
Somers Point is a borough in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,837 at the 2010 census. The borough was formed from portions of Monmouth and Union townships on May 25, 1838. Somers Point was named for Nicholas Somers (1768-1848), an Englishman who settled there in 1810. The first permanent settler in Somers Point was Nicholas Somers, who arrived in 1810 as part of the first group of English immigrants to come to what is now Passaic County. He founded a small farm on the present-day site of Northampton Street and West Street near where the Hackensack River flows into it. In 1842, Hermann Wilhelm Loehr donated land to make up part of what is now Northampton Township which he had also donated to Monmouth Borough earlier that year. On July 1, 1852, Monmouth and Union townships were merged into newMonmouth Township with Somers Point as its centerpiece. In 1870, when Morristown township was organized into municipalities within New Jersey by act of the New Jersey Legislature, Somers Point became one of those municipalities. In 1932–1933, during World War II,, local residents helped build munitions plants located around town for use by the Allies. This gave rise to the nickname "Bunker Hill" among locals due to the concentration of munitions factories just south of town along Route 9W between Dover Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard

Somers Point is a town in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 8,825 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Easton–Wilmington Urban Area. Somers Point was founded by Nicholas Sparks in 1785 and became a borough in 1854. It was incorporated as a townsite on April 14, 1881 and became a city on July 15, 1910. The first settlers to the area were three brothers named John, Nicholas and James Sparks who arrived from Rhode Island in 1785 on horseback. They surveyed what is now Somers Point Township and built their house there in 1787. The name of the settlement derives from Nicholas Sparks who had been sent to Newfoundland as an American merchant trader with General George Washington’s forces during the Revolutionary War. When Washington returned home he ordered his brother-in-law John Adams to purchase all of present day Bucks County for $5,000 with money he had taken from British prisoners held at Trenton Prison after its capture by American forces early that year. Adams sold off parcels until he had purchasable land around what is now downtown Somers Point where he erected his house which still stands today (the building was extensively damaged by a fire in 1984). In 1791 local resident Robert Morris donated land east of downtown for use as a public square which still exists today (now known as Morris Park). In 1824 Nicholas Sparks moved his family to what is now Penn State University campus northeast of town and began developing it into an agricultural village called Easton Mills where they raised hay, corn and beef cattle until their death in 1893 leaving behind several families of farmers who continue to live there today including descendants of JOHN SARGUSSON AND NICHOLAS SPRINGS! For many years prior to1900 no one living within walking distance actually knew this much about our ancestors other than occasional mentions when visiting estate homes or genealogy libraries! Today people located hereabouts know more about our family history than we ever could have imagined! It wasn't until 1876 when two groups totaling twenty men set out from New York City on foot crossing country through Wyoming Territory towards eastern Pennsylvania looking for lands that would eventually become Berks County while also searching for new routes overland across North Dakota Territory via Canada that they finally reached what is now Bucks County after spending fifteen days camping along the way! Upon arriving at present day Somers Point they discovered an area already inhabited by Native Americans whom they unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate trade goods with before setting camp again later that night near present day Uniontown PA under cover of darkness! Incredibly these brave pioneers not only accomplished something never done before but also managed to successfully explore an entire new region!! From this successful foray forward various small communities were developed throughout western PA incorporating aspects or participant culture brought over from those pioneering settlements including some based nearpresentday Somers point such as Chambersburg (now Kutztown), Reading (now Allentown), Dunmore (now Hazleton) & West Chester (now Lancaster)! Each community generally lasted around 25 years before disbanding due primarily to lack of resources or competition from larger neighboring communities!!! This process generally repeated itself resulting in numerous small villages dotting most parts of eastern PA becoming defunct without any major impact upon adjacent rural areas!! However some notable exceptions did occur such as Monroe Township which absorbed parts of Kutztown & Reading Townships respectively following similar patterns!! Lastly large rural areas such as Reading & Berks Counties continued unaffected overall despite large amounts OF development taking place directly adjacent!!! Although each village/community typically consisted mainlyof farmsteads & barns their residents did frequently engage in commerce or industry providingMEN WITH POWER wERE RESPONSIBLE FOR FORMING THE DEVELOPMENT INDUSTRY IN EASTERN PA...virtually ALL WAS BUILT WITH THEIR OWN HARD EARNED WAGES!!!!!!!!! What started out being just 2 guys Wanderlusting Around getting involved In various activities soon morphed Into A VERY LARGE BUSINESS INTERESTING PEOPLE FOR DECADES TO Come clustering Together HERE IN SOMERS POINT!!! Nowadays you can find practically EVERYBODY KNOWN ABOUT HISTORY IN SOMERS POINT INCLUDING A LOT OF FAMILY MEMBERS THAT ARE WELL UPON HERITAGE DOGS !!
The town of Somers Point was founded in 1764 by Luke Appling, a British soldier. The first store was built on the original land that is now Interstate 95. Somers Point became an important port and shipbuilding center during the Revolutionary War. In 1852, it was incorporated as a borough. The borough seat changed from Westfield to Somers Point in 1898.
