At that time, it was one of the most isolated communities in New Jersey because it was located on the banks of the Raritan River. As a result,Captain Ayscough decided to build his own GUNSIGHT STATION on his property which he called “Mount Vernon Arsenal” after George Washington’s Mount Vernon home. The first gunsight station consisted of a series of circles or crosseshields with different distances between them that allowed shooters to adjust their aim for different ranges. Because gun sights were so important for riflemen during this period,Ayscough also built an indoor range inside his house which he used for practice purposes as well as hunting competitions. In 1853, Captain John Haggerty replaced Captain Ayscough as headmaster at Mount Vernon Arsenal when that school merged with another school called Camden Academy into what is now Hunterdon County Technical High School (HCTHS). At HCTHS, we still usegun sights today in our rifle programs! This is due to Captain Haggerty’smany years experience with these devices and his belief that they are an essential part of NRA Rifle Shooting! He also believed that you should be able to hit your target from any angle so you could improve your accuracy even while firing from cover!

Somers Point is a city in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 27,812 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Delaware River and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Somers Point is located in the eastern portion of Mercer County. The first European settlers in what is now Somers Point were Dutchmen who arrived there in 1664. They named it "Hertogenbosch" after their king, William III of England (1627-83). The English took over from the Dutch in 1713 when they acquired control of North America following their victory at Saratoga over the Dutch fleet. In 1728, Peter Ackroyd founded a trading post at Somers Point with his brother John Ackroyd and others from Gravesend Township. That same year, Nicholas Varick erected a wharf on which he built a dock to load and unloadvessels for shipment to New York City and other ports along the Delaware River. On October 26, 1728, Varick's wharf was destroyed by fire while being used as a military barracks by British forces during American War of Independence. In 1829, George Washington visited Somerset Point during his presidential campaign tour across Pennsylvania and Maryland before travel to Harrisburg for his inauguration ceremonies two days later on January 20th. At that time approximately 1/4 million people lived within commuting distance of Philadelphia proper as well as points east via railroads such as Penn Station or Lancaster Station (now Reading Terminal Market). In 1851 an act was passed by Congress authorizing Rutgers University to establish an undergraduate school at what would become known as Rutgers Polytechnic Institute (Rutgers Eminent Domain #5), also known then as Somerville Technical Schools until 1906 when it became Rutgers–Newark Polytechnic Institute (Rutgers Eminent Domain #1). In 1870–71 both schools merged into one entity called Rutgers College but reverted back to separate entities again upon merger with Newark State College in 1972 under name Newark State University; however this name only lasted until 2006 when finally all constituent parts reverted back to their original names once again: Somerville Technical Schools & Rutgers College – Camden Campus
