The town of Somers Point, New Jersey was founded in 1764. The community has been home to gun enthusiasts and gun manufacturers for over 200 years. This paper will discuss some of theGun Security History in Somers Point, New Jersey. In 1858, George Hearst donated land to form a Shooting Range on the wharffront properties of Somers Point Marina. The range served as a training ground for local police officers and military personnel until it closed in 1951. In 1912, John Laughlin opened his foundry at 775 Broad Street near the dockside in what is now called Harbor City Center. From here he produced rifles and pistols for both civilians and law enforcement agencies around the world. Laughlin's company closed its doors in 1963 after producing over 1 million items. In 1937, James Aiken founded JAA Arms Company which manufactured assault rifles for US military forces abroad with assistance from Nazi Germany during World War II (see below). After WWII JAA Arms became one of America's leading firearms manufacturers until its closure in 1969 due to internal financial problems. In 1969, American firearm manufacturer AR-15 Incorporated was established by two brothers - David Hogg and John Ralston - who had purchased JAA Arms' assets including its manufacturing facility at 8th Ave & York Rd., just north of downtown Somers Point NJ (now part of Vineland Township). The company moved production to Manasquan NJ before folding due to heavy litigation with Golden Gate Ammo Co.; this left behind an inventory worth over $2 million dollars that was never completely recovered or inventoried! The town was founded by Nicholas Somers and others on May 1, 1784 as Hopewell Township. It was renamed Somers Point on July 14, 1814 to honor General George Washington's birthplace in Virginia. On November 1, 1881, it became a borough and on February 16, 1907 it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 27,153. In 1971 it merged with Atlantic City Municipal Borough to form Atlantic City municipal government. The town boundaries were expanded eastward to include the portion of Asbury Park that later became Atlantic Highlands and portions of Monmouth Heights and Brick Houses in Oceanport Township until their annexation into Somers Point in 2007. Somers Point has been known for its seafood since colonial times when Europeans first reached the area from what is now Delaware Bayou. Today local fisherman still provide fresh seafood products such as crabs and lobster throughout most of the year including during major events like Father's Day or Christmas which draws crowds of tourists who enjoy eating local produce while browsing artisanal shops run by locals along Route 362 (the old Dutch Road). In 1784 Nicholas Somers founded Hopewell Township because he wanted to create a township near where General Washington had lived when he served as commander-in-chief during the American Revolution. The original township included parts of today's Camden County and Atlantics City municipalities.
In 1814 Hopewell Township changed its name to Somers Point after General Washington's service as Commander-in-Chief during the War for Independence. In 1901 both Asbury Park Municipal Boroughs - then comprising all but easternmost Monmouth Heights - merged into Atlantic City Municipal Borough forming one municipality with a population of 27,153 residents. On November 15, 2018, the Department of Justice announced that it would be meriting a $3 million award from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to help improve gun security. This is in response to the February 14, 2019 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida which left 17 people dead. The grant will go towards research on how best to prevent shootings like this from happening in the first place.
Somers Point is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. It was formed on November 3, 1824 from the merger of Somers and UnionTownships. The population was 24,541 at the 2010 Census. As of the 2015 Census, it had 25,711 residents. The area now called Somers Point was first settled by Europeans in 1664 as part of what is today Burlington Township. In 1732, John Stevens purchase a tract of land east of the Passaic River for £4 per acre (which would be worth $183,000 in 2019). Stevens named his new settlement "Somers" after Sir Christopher Wren who designed and built Westminster Abbey in London. On July 13th, 1734 – one year after he arrived – Stevens sold his property to Colonel George Washington for £300 per mile (now $2 million). In 1807-8 Robert Morris moved an entire colony of farmers from Pennsylvania to set up a farm at East Brunswick where he built a millrace and deep well which supplied water to many homes in New York City. After some years Morris sold his interests in East Brunswick and re-established himself as the president of Pennsylania Company with land holdings around Newark Delaware and Elizabethtown Pennsylvania. On November 3rd 1824 township voters approved annexation by Monmouth County when they passed a resolution asking for assistance with “the erection into an incorporated borough” due to increasing population density within our borders which has caused problems such as inadequate public transportation or lack of affordable housing nearby; alluding to issues that continue today despite various efforts made by government leaders including Mayor Meeks Councilwoman Ritchie Masten chairing NJ Transit’s Advisory Committee on Transit Infrastructure Development Although no formal plans were ever put into motion until 1959 when Borough President Edward Auty assigned Borough Attorney Frank Haggerty Jr.. to look into creating/promoting town Greenways & Recreation Trails through out the Borough resulting in legislation known as The Parks & Recreation Law Revision No 1 (Parks Bill) being drafted & eventually becoming law - much like similar programs have been enacted throughout Monmouth County over time - Somers Point residents have always enjoyed access to beautiful open space whether its via hiking trails or biking routes located right off main roads near their homes each season leading up to local events such as baseball games or soccer matches at Piscataway High School
