Secaucus is a town in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 37,984 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in Hudson County by population and the second-largest municipality by area. The name "Secaucus" is derived from English Township of Easton which was located within what is now Secaucus Township. The first recorded reference to a settlement called "Secaucus" occurred in 1624 when George Paramore sent out an exploration party and named one of his discoveries after this township, Secaucus Plantation. On July 12, 1704, Robert Morris registered as an owner of land comprising part of what is now Secaucus Township with the Dutch East India Company. He filed a deed on October 9th of that year with James Montresor, secretary to the proprietors for New York Province (now New Jersey). In 1709 John Woolman settled near where Secaucus Lake now stands on land acquired from Morris in 1704. In 1834 it was decided thatSecaucus should be incorporated as a borough; and on December 10th became one of five towns in Hudson County (.7 million people) created through consolidation of two other municipalities--Hackensack andParamus--with only municipal services being provided (the others were Atlantic City Borough (1836), Paterson Borough (.8 million people) and West Orange Borough (.6 million people). According to the 2000 US Census: There are no schools located within Secaucus boundaries; however all residents living within 1 mile or less must attend either Johnson & Wales High School or Monmouth University Prep School as their only option for education purposes (though students may also choose to attend other public schools). This has led to some parents choosing not to send their children to school while they await resolution on whether or not they will have their local school closed due to budgetary constraints. As well as this lack of school options many residents find it difficult To get good job opportunities because there are few companies who have locations within 1 mile radius of your home - making it very hard for someone without proper qualifications even to get started in their career

Secaucus is one of the five municipalities in Hudson County that are part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The first European settler in Secaucus was Nicholas Palladino and his family from Rome, Italy on December 1, 1674. Palladino moved to Secaucus from Morristown Township in 1718 with his family. He erected a log cabin on what is now Park Row and named it after himself, "Nicholas Palladino's House". A post office called Secaucus was established in 1825 and remained operational until 1957. The name derives from Dutch (sertorius) meaning "a small hillock" or "hillock by the river". The first school in Secaucus was founded by Reverend John Vandergrift on October 9th of that year. The school operated for six weeks before being closed due to lack of enrollment. In 1828, Rev Vandergrift opened a second school which he named "Nova Scotia School" because of the then-recent influx of Nova Scotians into the area during Andrew Johnson's presidency as U.S.–Canada tensions mounted about American slavery. The first town meeting for Secaucus happened on January 14th 1831 under the leadership of Ebenezer Keogh who presided over a resolution authorizing building of a new courthouse and jail within Drury Lane boundaries northward from Market Street to fit with similar buildings already existing in Hackensack and Freehold Township which were also becoming overcrowded due to an increase in immigration levels during this time period according to historian James Prentice writing about Secaucus: “In view thereof all said townships votedstreet sweeping etc., an amount exceeding $1,500 per annum; when it appeared that such work could not be done without injuring many valuable trees near by entire streets had to be cut down” . On December 3rd 1830 (the day afterKeogh's presentation), prior tonyc incorporation as a borough – later becoming City Hall – Borough President Jeremiah Tingey recommended incorporation by resolutions passed at meetings held throughouttownship along with contributions totaling $5391/2/3 payable annually thereafter By February 1st 1832 all but one subscription having been paid… By March 15th there were twenty-six subscribers thereto paying an aggregate sum total of $8992... With township government organized on April 10th 1832 formal business began including electing officers including four trustees viz.: clerk treasurer marshal & surveyor.. . On July 20th 1840 Police Constable Peter Hynes arrived from Newark after spending several years service with Union forces stationed there during the war against Spain.. A few months later he married Elizabeth Dillingham became mother of two daughters born at their home - one being Anna Maria Hynes who would become Mayoralty Candidate for NJ 2016 . Incorporation proceedings were continued but took no further action until May 7th 1841 when notice was given that section 13b (7 Mile Limit) relativeto land holdings within limits set forth therein had become effective effective pursuant to An Act entitled An Act Relative To Annexation Of Certain Towns And Villages Within Our Borough Of Newark By Order Of The Board OF Education less than 24 hours previous when such lands actually lay within those limits reference thereto having been omitted thereby making such lands available subject only unto taxation purposes provided hereinbelow If any person believing they have any interest therein or can show cause why same should not be taxed see him immediately Commissioners appointed therefore shall reside also herewith

Secaucus is located on the north shore of Long Island Sound and bordered by Hackensack to the south and east, Caldwell to the north, and Westwood to the west. The first European explorers who traversed what is now Secaucus were Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 and his crew of three ships set out from Cipriani Point on Staten Island for a journey that would take them all the way to Newfoundland. They named their new found land "New Netherland" after one of their number had brought news of this land back from Spain. The Dutch began trading with Native Americans here, establishing agriculture and trade with Europe in what is today called "the Dutch Colonial Period." In 1664, English settlers arrived on Long Island Sound from Connecticut during what is known as The Great Awakening; they were part of an effort by King Charles II to gain control over much of North America through missionary activity following his successful rebellion against Spanish rule in England. These English colonists founded Augusta Township on Long Island Sound before moving downriver into present-day Secaucus when it became part of Bergen County in 1714. In 1814, Congress passed an act creating having two townships within each county within New Jersey – Monmouthshire (later Garden State) Township was created at Secaucus while Passaic (later Bergen) Township was split between Paterson and nearby Woodbridge Township. It wasn't until 1869 that both Secaucus Township and MonmouthshireTownship merged into one municipality under the name of Secaucus/Monmouthshire Borough which still exists today as a separate independent municipality inside Hudson County with its own governing body - City Hall is located there along with other municipal services such as police departments, parks & recreation authorities etc.). It wasn’t until 1924 that a water main ran directly from Newark Bay throughSecaucus resulting in an economic boom for the town which attracted businesses such as General Motors plants Army Air Force Base Trenton Airport Newark Liberty International Airport etc.; various factories were built here including Jack situations where road access conflicted with manufacturing activities so large trucks would have to drive around curves & periods where roads went straight up or down I-95 resulted In mountains high enough for buses to stop & serve passengers coming out Of Newarkbay
