Secaucus, New Jersey is a town in Hudson County, New Jersey. The population was 31,542 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in Hudson County and the third-most populous municipality within New Jersey after Newark and Trenton. The name "Secaucus" may be derived from the Lenape word "sekach," meaning to lead or drive away (a dog). The first settler in Secaucus was John Starkweather who arrived on November 5, 1761. He founded what became known as Starkweather Manor near where Secaucus now stands. Other early settlers included Nicholas Fenton and his brother Ezekiel Fenton who came to Secaucus in 1768. In 1812 George Washington visited Secaucus while he was marching through the area for his final campaign against General John Burgoyne. In 1840, Abram Daley erected a small log cabin on lands that would become Secaucus Township. On May 7th of that year, Daley named the township after himself - Secaucus Township being one of few townships createdin New Jersey during the early days of statehood. Development began immediately and by 1850 there were over 100 homes here including some built by Daley himself! By 1860 there were over 350 people living in what is now Secaucus Borough with only 3 businesses left! The first school in Secaucus Township was built on December 8th, 1851 by Rev Nathaniel Morton with help from Mr Isaac Brownell of Hackensack Chase School District #2 which had opened its doors just two months earlier! Reverend Morton served as school superintendent until he died on October 15th of 1852 at age 82 years old – an event that deeply affected all those associated with him both then and later! For many years it seemed impossible for anyone other than Reverend Morton’s widow to take charge of running our schools but eventually she did so under her own power using her own resources which we still enjoy today! It wasn't until 1862 when a new school building called Old Forge Academy was constructed adjacent to what is now Lake Merritt Drive which later became home to Phillips Exeter Academy before finally becoming known as Northwood High School – one of four high schools operated by Hoboken public Schools although originally designed for students from South Hackensack! One such milestone occurred when Northwood achieved its first winning score on statewide math tests – an accomplishment that truly set them apart from their contemporaries A number of other local businesses also sprung up during this time including JW Weingarten's bakery (later renamed KFC) located across Route 9 from where it remains today; HWN Trucking Company serving customers out front at Market Street & West Side Highway; Mrs Mary Kearney's grocery store (now defunct); Mrs Leah Pickering's dry goods store; Dr Paul Bischoff's veterinary clinic; & Johnny Appleseed Cigar Store ! It isn't hard to imagine all these various businesses thriving given how much opportunity they had back then!! By 1969 however things started to unravel for Secaucus as Edison Electric Institute moved into their new headquarters south of Route 9 opposite First Union Bank…the beginning stages of what would ultimately be called “the Great Recession”!!! This sadly marked a turning point for our community as many families decided either not to move here or found themselves struggling along with everyone else during this difficult time !! Unfortunately nothing could bring back those lost years…but thankfully things have since stabilized somewhat

Secaucus, New Jersey is a borough in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 19,471 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 Census, it had 18,868 residents. Secaucus is located on the banks of the Hackensack River and its namesake is Alexander Hamilton's home town. The area that would become Secaucus was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1624 as North NetherlandtOWN. It was renamed after General Jameson Secaucus on May 25th, 1784 as part of an effort to rename all of Hudson County after Revolutionary War veterans who had died in battle or during captivity (i.e., George Washington and John Adams). The name "Secaucus" originated from a Native American word meaning "safe place." In 1814, a group of families from Morristown migrated to Secaucus from Newark and formed what would be known as the Morris-Secaucus family dynasty. In 1847, two miles northeast of present-day Secaucus Village sat what is now called Burr Ridge Road (later Route 9), which connected Morristown with Newark and vice versa by way of open roadsteads that served as marketplace routes between both municipalities. The open land around Burr Ridge Road became known as “the Belt” because it extended across the center of today’s Borough of Secaucus while remaining undeveloped until the late 19th century when farmers began to settle thereabouts and develop drained areas around their homes for agriculture purposes; this opened up much valuable real estate along what later became Route 9 including today’s securitized commercial waterfront property adjacent to Iselin Landing mall As development proceeded along Route 9 throughout most of the 20th century and into recent decades some portions – notably those lying east/northeast of current day route 9 within securitized industrial waterfront properties adjacent to Iselin Landing mall - were developed for residential use only with no access public transportation available beyond walking or biking distances to shopping centers where taxicabs are available; other portions continued undeveloped through much later years becoming popular commercial areas with heavy concentrations housing single-family detached dwellings characterized by wide lot sizes near busy streetscapes featuring large yards facing out onto backyards providing excellent views over downtown Newark skyline
Secaucus, New Jersey is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the city had a population of 62,569. The name "Secaucus" is derived from the Lenape wordadkwalutz (שִׂרְקַבּוּ שָׁלוּי) meaning "safe house". The first European settlers arrived in what is now Secaucus in 1664 by ship from Holland. At that time it was part of Bergen County. In 1714, when Secaucus and East Rutherford were merged into Bergen County, the town received a grant from King George II to be called "Newburgh". It remained under this name until 1834 when it became part of Hudson County. In 1811 Captain John Stevens founded the first post office at Secaucus with five mailbags sent on horseback to Newark daily. The first store opened in 1824 andrews hardware store was built in 1828 and still stands today as one of Secaucus' most popular attractions. In 1830-31 Jacob Riis did an investigation into crime in New York City which made him famous and later helped make Secaucus an attractive destination for criminals looking to escape justice. He also wrote about his findings during his visits here between 1880 and 1890. In 1870-71 Atlantic Telegraph Company erected a tower on Palisades Avenue which remains standing today as one ofSecaucus' more notable landmarks
