Today, Secaucus is a small town with a population of 25,824 that includes an area known as The Village which is home to some high-end businesses as well as government buildings including the county courthouse and two jails. According to2010 US Census data released by Borough Administrator Bernadette Meehan The village has seen significant growth in recent years due primarily to development around Newark Liberty International Airport – which has led to increased traffic congestion on Route 9 outside of The Village – but also because there are now more job opportunities available in the surrounding area for people who commute into Newark or Forney counties each day than there were 20 years ago when airport development only contributed about one-third of total village growth (the other two-thirds came from residential growth).

Secaucus, New Jersey is a borough located in Essex County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a population of 22,717. The name "Secaucus" was derived from the Lenape word sedge meaning "a small stream." The first European to visit Secaucus was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He named it after his hometown of Verrazzano (nowVerona) in Italy. In 1714, George Washington passed through Secaucus on his way to Princeton University. In 1839, Isaac Norris built what is now called the Norris House at 5th and Market Streets as a summer home for members of the Morris family. John Fenton bought it in 1845 and transformed it into an evidence library and museum which still stands today at 6th and Market Streets. In 1881–82, the Borough of Secaucus erected two granite walls along 3rd Street between Park Avenue and Main Street as part of its annexation process with Dumont Township. The wall served as an unofficial boundary between Secaucus and Dumont until Borough officials moved to create a parkland buffer around Prospect Park when they annexed that township in 1945-46. The population reached 20,000 by 1910 but grew slowly thereafter due to commuting difficulties caused by Farmingdale Township's close proximity to Newark Airport and other major metropolitan areas during that time period; however, since 2000 there has been an increase in development taking place within secaucus borders including mixed use developments such as One North Center mall adjacent tosecaucus train station while also housing units being developed adjacent to El Granada high school; all this while still keeping much of itsresidential infrastructure intact from when Secaucus was founded up until recent decades
