Sayreville, New Jersey is home to the Sayreville Rifle and Pistol Club, which has been in operation since 1892. The club was founded by two brothers, John and Amos Sayre, who were inspired to start a rifle and pistol club after watching a group of men shoot at a target in their backyard. The first rifles were made from blacksmiths' parts and the pistols were built from old cannons. The Sayresville Rifle & Pistol Club has many trophies that commemorate its successes over the years. These include: the 1915 National Open Championship (won by George Armstrong Custer), the 1922 State Open Championship (won by Abe Asher), and most recently, the 2009 American Rifleman's Trophy (won by Adam Winkler). In 1932, Sayreville became one of only three towns in New Jersey to become certified as an " firearms instructor training center." This certification allowed instructors to offer firearms safety courses for residents of their town. Today, there are still several teach-out locations throughout Sayreville. The Sayreville Rifle & Pistol Club continues to be an important part of southeastern New Jersey life today with its member's passion for shooting sportsmanship and community service.

Sayreville is a small town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. Sayreville is part of the Morristown, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by John Sayre in 1798 as part of an effort to improve transportation between the towns of Easton and West Orange. By 1825, Sayreville had become one of the most important commercial and industrial centers in Hunterdon County. In 1829, John Sayre donated land for the current village square which contains four churches and a public school. The Village of Sayreville was incorporated on July 1, 1875. In 1886,Sayreville became home to America's first electric streetlight system when two lines were connected by a transformer at Market and Elm Streets. The $1 million project replaced 231 light bulbs with new incandescent lamps and cost $6 per light bulb. In 1905-06, Sayreville erected its first retail building - a three-story brick structure on Main Street - which served as the nucleus for what would become known as the local shopping mall today. Today's Mall has over 150 stores including Macy's Department store along with several anchors such as Sears & Roebuck and JCPenney; it also features many restaurants and cafes including Starbucks Coffee House & Bakery., Quiznos Subways (the only Subway location in New Jersey), Dunkin' Donuts (the only Dunkin' Donuts restaurant in New Jersey), etc., making it one of North Jersey's most vibrant communities cultural resources center

Sayreville was founded in 1795 by Major General George Washington and his wife, Catherine Livingston. Sayreville was named after General Sir John Sayre, a British general who fought in the French and Indian War. The first post office was established in 1796. The town had a population of about 100 people when it became part of New Jersey in 1846. The early years of Sayreville were not easy. Many immigrants came to America looking for a better life, but few could find success. However, the town slowly began to develop and grow, thanks to its hard work and dedication from its citizens. In 1847, Sayreville became the capital of New Jersey because Trenton had been abandoned by its government. This event marked an important change for the town as it now acted as the state's main financial center. In 1860, Sayreville erected its first schoolhouse which remains standing today. It also erected the first courthouse in New Jersey which is still used today as a court house. In 1866, Sayreville burned down due to an accidental fire that started while opera singer LaGuardia was performing at an outdoor concert on High Street. No one was injured though much property damage occurred including some homes that still stand today! The late 1800s saw many changes forSayreville as well- most notably during World War I when many factories closed down due to wartime economic constraints; however, businesses restarted shortly afterwards with new owners/estimates puttingSAYREVILLE'S INDUSTRY TOSUCH A LENGTHY HISTORY THAT THE COMMUNITY NOW CONSIDER ITS OWN CITY!
