The Sayreville Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1892. The club acquired a gunsmith, John P. Sayre, to create rifles and pistols. The rifle range was opened in 1909 and the pistol range in 1912. In 1923, the Sayreville Rifle & Pistol Club purchased land adjacent to the current synthetic basketball court at Douglas Park for use as a rifle range. The old tennis courts on that site were also used for target practice. In 1933, the Sayreville Rifle & Pistol Club leased land from the Township of Sayrevillle for use as their own shooting ranges. This lease lasted until 1984 when ownership of both ranges passed to the Township ofSayrevillle under an agreement between township officials and club members. In 2006, new metal detectors were added to both rifle ranges with a $1 million renovation project led by architects Donny Czarnecki and Associates Incorporated of Parsippany, New Jersey Today, there are over 350 members active at both ranges which offer target shooting opportunities for all ages and levels of experience The rifle ranges have been home to many notable events such as State Championships hosted by NJCAA (New Jersey Shotgun Association), World Championships hosted by IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) and many more

Sayreville, New Jersey is a town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. Sayreville is part of the Camden–Newark–Belmar Census Township. The first settlers of Sayreville were Hugh and Ann Dowling who arrived in 1795 from Ireland. They built their home on the east side of avenue which became known as Dowling's Lane. The first school in Sayreville was established in 1810 and it was called the Academy School. In 1814, Mr. John Sweeny opened a small grocery store on Mechanic Street which became known as Sweeny's Grocery Store. In 1825, General William Howe purchased land at Broad and Park Streets for $1,000 to start a village named after him called Howe Village. The first buildings in the village were erected by Mr. John Glessner which included a gristmill, three stores and two blacksmiths' shops. On October 6th, 1830, by order of Governor Nicholas Noyes (the first United States Minister to Europe) the village became an incorporated town under the name of Sayreville with boundaries that extended along Broad Street from its center to Market Street on the north and Orange Avenue from its center to Mechanic Road on the south In 1867-68 Captain Nathaniel Wright led a detachment of Union troops against Confederate forces under Robert Ewell during what is now known as Battle of Gettysburg within sight of Sayreville Captain Wright's unit suffered heavy losses including one man killed leading up to this event Aftermath Captain Nathaniel Wright took his own life at home surrounded by his family Sayreville eventually lost its incorporation status but kept many aspects such as its name until 1968 when it merged with Newark into that city's overall population

Sayreville was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was located on the north bank of Sayre Creek and had a population of 927 according to the 2010 census. The community was named for General George Washington's father-in-law, Nathanael Greene. The first European to see Sayreville was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 when he charted the river's course between what is now New Brunswick and Camden. The area that is now Sayreville was part of the Dutch colony of Westphalia which fell to Great Britain in 1714. In 1764, Dutch colonists Joris de Valk and Hendrik Van Rensselaer founded the village of West Sayre on land that they had purchased from the British government for $5 per acre (equivalent to ). In 1802, John Armstrong renamed Sayreville after his home state of Virginia. At that time, only 8 people lived in Sayreville; by 1830, its population had swollen to 20 with 5 churches and 1 school. In 1834, Rutherford Boggs bought some property northeast of town and began developing it into what is today known as Boggs Prairie Nature Preserve which includes over 2 miles (3 km) of hiking trails through forested terrain. He also established an agricultural enterprise focused on raising hay and corn for local markets; this operation continued until his death in 1907. Boggs' son Hennepin Wigglesworth took over running the business following his father's death; during World War II it became an armaments manufacturing plant producing radios and other electronic equipment for military use.
