Rutherford, New Jersey is home to the world's largest gun manufacturer, Sturm Ruger. The company was founded in 1887 by George Sturm and Rufus Hunt. It became a subsidiary of Colt Industries in 1903. In 1966, Sturm Ruger merged with Browning Firearms Company to form Browning-Sturm Ruger Corporation (BBR). That company was renamed ruger plc. on July 1, 2014. The current CEO of ruger plc., James A. Butler III, is the founder's grandson and son of his late wife Jane Butler who was also the co-founder of Colt Industries andBrowning Firearms Company. The company produces more than 100 different firearms models including revolvers, pistols, rifles, shotguns and airguns.

The first gun parts in Rutherford were made by Nicholas-Jacques Ferrier, a French immigrant who arrived in the area in 1795. He started making guns and pistols at his home on North Main Street. The shop was known as the Ferrier Arms Shop until 1814, when it moved to its current location on Market Street. In 1827, John Cockerill opened a store next door and continued to sell guns from his store until 1866 when he closed down due to health concerns. In 1865, Charles Biddle bought the business from John Cockerill and continued to operate it until 1899 when it became part of the Federated Firearms Company. It was then sold to American Armory Corporation which operated it until 2002 when it went into receivership. It has been restored and is now open for visitors.
Rutherford is a borough in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,869 at the 2010 census. As of the Census Bureau's estimate for 2012, Rutherford had 4,083 residents. It is part of the Garden State Division of New Jersey and is located within the Middlesex County metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Rutherford was John Rutherford who arrived on a ship from Scotland in 1724. He built a house on what is now Main Street and named it after himself. His son James also settled there in 1740 and operated a sawmill until his death in 1800. In 1811, Rutherford became an incorporated town with its own government under the name of "Rutherford Township". The township was renamed to "New Jersey" after George Washington when he took office as President of the United States in 1789. In 1832, three brothers (George Washington Sr., John Marshall Jr., and James Kapp) founded the Iron Hill Mines Company which mined iron ore near present-day Mount Pleasant. The company went bankrupt but left behind several mines that were later developed into townships including: Moorestown (1834), West Bound Brook (1836), North Bound Brook (1841), Edison Junction (1849), South Bound Brook (1851), East Bridgewater (1907). The discovery of oil reserves at Astoria Heights led to increased development around Rutherford during World War II with munitions plants being established at nearby Malvern Hills as well as a large plutonium production plant at Monmouth Park Naval Shipyard adjacent to South Brunswick Township; both plants were closed by 1973 due to contamination concerns stemming from their use of nuclear materials during World War II. However, some remaining factories have been converted into small businesses such as: One Stop Gourmet Foods across from Livingston High School; Park Ridge Furniture & Appliance store on Route 22 just south of Interstate 95; Palisades Pressurized Water Treatment Plant across from Riverbend Shopping Center; Southern Tier Moving and Storage Inc.; which operates out of Old Bridge Plaza mall between I-95 and US 1; Summit Lawn Nursery across from Woodbridge plaza off Route 202; etc.). Today much of what once made up Rutherford has been replaced by suburban developments such as: Oakwood Terrace Apartments complex located just east of Interstate 95 next to exit 10A off I-95W/US 1 where many jobs are available for commuters commuting into Trenton or Princeton NJ"; Beechcrest Estates subdivision located north side off Route 22 between US 1&I-95W approximately 2 miles west of exit 9B off I-95W nears junction with PA Turnpike("Beechcrest"); White Sands Farms subdivisions located southeast corner off I-295 Exit 5B approximately 4 miles eastof junction with PA Turnpike("White Sands"); while Cedar Crest Estates subdivision remains extant adjacent to Bethpage Airpark along I-495 northwest side approximating 5 miles southwestward from exit 191B/IR 8 about 12 miles northeastward from Trenton NJ."

Rutherford was a small town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, and is now part of the borough of Neptune. The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1838. The first store in Rutherford opened in 1841. In 1865, Rutherford became the county seat of Monmouth County. In 1906, Rutherford's post office closed and it merged with Neptune to form a single municipality. In 1970, the municipality split again into two municipalities; one for residents of Rutherford and one for residents of Neptune. Rutherford has a rich history that dates back to 1838 when Scots-Irish immigrants from Ireland landed at what is now known as Pierrefonds Point on Pierrefonds Bayou in recognition of their political independence from Great Britain. They set up shop initially selling flour, potatoes and other supplies to local farmers before quickly establishing themselves as merchants and developers. By 1865, they had built their first store which remained until 1941 when it burned down due to arson accusations made against its owner (the then Postmaster General). The community experienced several peaks during its early years including prosperity due to its location near Rutgers University and its access to fishing resources both fresh water and salt water sources which aided development along with strong support from government coffers which helped finance construction projects such as schools, churches and hospitals while also providing jobs for locals during times of economic downturns or war shortages respectively. Ultimately however these latter days were not always additive to physical growth leading some people within the community feeling that lack thereof may have been the main reason behind waning population numbers over time instead than dwindling social attractions or economic opportunities? No matter how you slice it though Rutherford’s heyday cannot be overemphasized given its importance both historically speaking as well as culturallyurally speaking given that many key aspects of Irish American society were formed here including Gaelic football clubs (Rutherford GAA) present today), music halls (Festival Hall built in 1904) & pubs (Redemption Tavern built in 1886) all located within easy walking distance for anyone regardless socioeconomically inclined making this an ideal place for cultural events/picnics etc.? Despite this however there are also some clear signs that things are starting to change with regards to overnight stays by tourists being increasingly popular amongst locals rather than guests brought on holiday seasonales especially given that some sections within town centre feel like they are becoming less vibrant& more rundown?
