Rutherford is named after Sir Humphrey Rutherford, 1st Baronet (1809-1892), an Englishman who had ownership of some property in what is now Rutherford Borough since 1786 and donated it to the town for development purposes. Today’s Sir Humphrey Rutherford High School mascot is “Humphreys” and all employees are required to wear one during school hours. There are also two parks located within the borough: One near Strawberry fields Elementary School and another near Harding Park Middle School which borders South Hackensack River. The borough has several shopping malls including One Kings Highway Mall - one of the largest mall complexes east of Philadelphia – as well as several smaller stores such as JCPenney Centre and Sears Holdings Corporation’s Kmart Store opened in 1984 adjacent torings Kmart Super Center across Route 9 from Borough Hall Plaza Shopping Center on Willow Road just off Interstate 287 (now I-95). In addition to these shopping malls there are also several businesses located throughout the borough that serve local needs such as police headquarters (northwest corner of Willow Road & Cedar Lane) fire department (southwest corner of Willow Road & Clinton Avenue), libraries (northwest corner of Willow Road & Monmouth Avenue), schools (southwest corner of Willow Road & Clinton Avenue) and various other services providing essential support to residents including publicworks departments like street cleaning or recycling; ambulance service; human resources; law enforcement; government services including parking meters; public transportation with stops at various locations around town; businesses that provide auxiliary services such as home health aides or day care for small children In spite being overshadowed by nearby Newark Liberty International Airport with its larger passenger count (+29% vs +2% at NIAP) over time Radnor Township's growth has largely been due to its location - sandwiched between Newark's main airport area on the south side and Garden State Parkway on the north side – excellent highway access opportunities along I-287/Route 9 make it easy for businesses looking for space outside Newark but without easy access directly into either city center or any major Englewood neighborhoods or commercial districts like Elizabeth Street between Broad Street/Pine Barren Expressway/Jersey Shore Expressway junction eastbound lanes I-280 exit 6th Ave., etc., while still maintaining good quality suburban amenities like large open parkland fronting Routes 9W through 12T which attracted neighboring Hasbrouck Heights until recently when they built their own high school annexing East Hackensack River waterfront lots next door making it difficult if not impossible for them ever again top compete with downtown Newark's "city centre", despite having more people living close by ($30K median household income compared to $21K median household income downtown); furthermore Rutherfords lack even basic infrastructure likeahybrid sewerage system nor mass transit so most residents rely heavily on dirty water deliveries supplemented by hand hauled tanker truck trips from central NJ downriver every few weeks (~$5 per month)

Rutherford is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 24,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Newark-Philadelphia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Rutherford was James Rutherford, who arrived in 1788 and built a cabin on North Mountain Road. In 1814, he erected a small mill on the river that ran through his property. The mill became known as "Rutherford's Mills". In 1825, Rutherford purchased land from John French for $8,000 and began to develop it into a town. He named his new town after himself, Rutherford Township (named for him). On May 12, 1827, George Washingtonounded Princeton University in Princeton Township and founded Princeton University Library in honor of President Washington. In 1840–41 Rutherford opened the first post office in what is now Hunterdon County; it was located at the junction of Old Route 22 and Middle Road (now Easton Parkway). In 1863–64 Robert Ewing donated land east of Borough Park to form Upper Cumberland township which took its name from Ewing's donation. In 1870–71 William Halsey donated land east of Borough Park to make Millville township which took its name from Halsey's donation. In 1922–23 Raymond Mabus donated land north of Borough Park to make Monmouth township which took its name from Mabus' donation plus an extra letter “o” because Monmouth had been split off from New Jersey when it seceded from the Union during World War I. In 1945–46 Dwight Eisenhower gave $1 million towards development of what would become Edison National Laboratory near Ridgefield Twp., but this gift fell apart due to budget cuts by then-President Harry Truman before it could be delivered
Rutherford was a township in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. It was named for John Rutherford, 3rd Viscount Radnor. The township was first established on May 8, 1834 by order of the Township Committee. They were originally part of the Middlesex County area and were annexed to Bergen County on April 14, 1912. On July 1, 1915, Rutherford became a borough within Bergen County. On October 15, 1997 it merged into Paramus Borough with the former municipalities of Ridgewood and Northwood.
