Roselle is a township located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 25,851. The name is derived from two French words - rosselle (a rose) and leel (a valley). Roselle was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1666. It became an English township in 1708. In 1800, it became part of New Jersey when that state was formed from parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Roselle’s history can be traced back to 1814 when General John Dearborn founded the village of Dearborn on the site of what is now Roselle. Dearborn named his village after his general’s daughter, Rosalie de la Halle (1804-1868). After Dearborn’s death in 1828, his son George took over management of the village and renamed itDearborn Township. The original mills which operated in Roseslle were destroyed by fire on July 4th, 1846; however they had been operating for several years before that time. The first post office at Roseslle was established on October 1st, 1847; however, it remained unoccupied for some time because there wasn't enough space available for a building on Main Street. On November 3rd, 1850, the first store at Roseslle opened its doors with goods from Boston along withaspace for future growth and development! The first settler to live in Roseslle was Isaac Welles who arrived on December 12th 1840 from Philadelphia! He later married Mary Ann Ackermann and purchased land east of present day Garden Avenue where he built a small home known as “The Welles House". Mrs. Welles resided here until her death in 1865! Another early settler was Samuel Nordheimer who arrived January 2nd1854from Hamburg NY!. He erected a small log cabin near what is now Elmhurst Road! After becoming an English township in 1800 through act of Congress under President James Kileburn*, Roseslles economy rapidly changed due to new transportation opportunities opening up with railroads reaching Roselia* during this period*. In 1905*, roseslrtle started receiving water services direct from Newark DE*. This led to major construction projects such as the addition of miles long viaduct* across Cedar Creek* connecting Newark DE&Roseslia NJ which dates back to 1892* finally enabling residents access to shopping malls just outside their door! The townships growth continued into the 20th century thanks largely to its rich agricultural history with many estate farms still functioning today including *the *Belvidere Estate which has been featured numerous times on HGTV* as well as scores of other properties across New Jersey!! Roselle is a small town in New Jersey, located on the north shore of Lake Monmouth. The town was first settled in 1814 by Dutch farmers and their families. It was incorporated as a borough in 1865 and became a city in 1903. Roselle is home to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), which was founded here in 1911. The population of Roselle was 21,844 at the 2010 census; it has since grown to 25,912. The first settlers to Roselle were Dutch farmers who arrived from Utrecht, Netherlands in 1814. They built log-and-stone houses near what is now Main Street. In 1865, the Borough of Roselle became an incorporated municipality when residents voted 2-to-1 to become part of the new City of Newark. In 1903, Roselle joined the newly formed State of New Jersey as a city with its own government and mayoralty. At that time, it had a total population of 14,500 people living within its boundaries including 511 households headed by single women who worked as domestic servants or seamstresses for local businesses such as banks and mills. In 1971–72, during Mayor Raymond Lasseter's administration, work began on expanding Garden State Parkway eastward from its original routing through Edison Township into Roselle Township whereupon much development took place along Garden State Parkway between Edgewater Boulevard and Route 22 (now MacArthur Boulevard). This increase in traffic caused many residences located along Garden State Parkway to be vacated or sold at bargain basement prices during this period; some were later renovated into high-end homes known today as "Gardenstate Pkwy." Development also occurred along Interstate 95W from Linden Avenue westward through neighboring East Brunswick Township into Rosesville Township whereupon much shopping and dining opportunity arose for motorists traveling by car between Princeton Junction southbound on I 95W and North Brunswick eastbound on I 95W; this area now includes portions of South Brunswick township including Wildwood Beach Drive Roselle's demographics have shifted over time with younger generations increasingly moving away while older residents have retained their settlement patterns until recently when suburban growth has resumed among current/ former downtown residents
