Gun targets have been a part of American history for over a century. The first known gun target was erected in 1857 in Roselle, New Jersey by Captain John Woolridge. Captain Woolridge was responsible for training local militia forces and also built the first rifle range in the area. In 1865, Major General George McClellan placed an order for 2,500 Target Guns to be produced in response to the Civil War. The orders were filled quickly and within months,Target Guns had become standard equipment on Union soldiers' battlefields. During World War II, Target Guns became integral to the anti-aircraft warfare (A2) campaign against Nazi Germany. Thousands of Target Guns were manufactured in various factories throughout America during World War II. After the war, many Target Guns were sold off through private sale and repurposed as shotguns or handguns. Today, Target Gun ownership continues to be popular among enthusiasts across the United States and around the world.

The first gun target in Roselle was a musketball at the town's first ever rifle range, located on West Main Street. The range opened in 1825 and was operated by the New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club. It closed in 1864. In 1928, a new rifle range opened on South Main Street east of the old factory complex that used to be called "The Arsenal". This range was operated by the New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Association until it closed in 1961. In 1957, another new rifle range opened on North Avenue west of Interstate 95, which was also operated by the NRA. This Range closed in 1991. In 1978, a new pistol range opened on Cedar Hill Road east of I-95 between Parsippany and Millville roads. This Range was alsooperated by the NRA until it closed in 1984.
Roselle is a small town in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia-based media market. Roselle was founded by Dutch immigrants in 1764 and became known as "the prettiest little village on the continent". The area now included within Roselle was first settled during the 18th century by Germans who were displaced from their homes in Europe during the Napoleonic Wars. The first settler, Johann Gottfried Ziegler, arrived in 1764 and named his land Willispelmühlen after a spring near his home. At that time most of what would become Roselle had not yet been surveyed and developed as a town. In 1768 German immigrants Peter Hesse and Jacob Kapp bought 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land east of Center Street for $200 per acre (0.8 km²). They built a grist mill which produced flour for local markets until it burned down in 1807 while they were away fighting France. Kapp's heirs rebuilt it and renamed it Kapp's Mills after him; this name still appears on some structures in the town today. Johannes Gutenberg established Roselle as an important center for printing technology in 1629 when he moved his workshop from Wittenberg to Roselle to produce movable type fonts for bookbinding and other uses (Gutenberg invented movable type printing). By 1800 about 60% of all paper production took place here. A Presbyterian church was constructed soon thereafter on land acquired from John Semonius, one of Newark's earliest landowners; construction started in 1798 but continued intermittently due to lack of money until 1802 when Semonius donated $5,000 () to complete it*. A school opened on December 5th 1814 at Second Street and Market Place under teachers descended from Scottish settlers who had originally landed there around 1700* * pupils enrolled there through 1860 inclusive; later also housed post office In 1865 two brothers – George Ritchie & Edward Ladd – purchased 2/3rds interest (~$10,000)in Crystal Springs Electric Light Company which became Newark’s first municipally owned electric light company & power plant *. With its acquisition came tracts adjoining Ritchie’s property along Constitution Avenue NW which becameRoselle Township* *. After World War II Roselle experienced rapid growth with incorporations of numerous new businesses including several banks*, * nightlife establishments such as casinos*, * auto manufacturing plants*. Rapid population growth has caused infrastructure congestion particularly with schools (& high levels of traffic), transportation (particularly automobile lanes), water resources (* sewer line extensions), public works projects(* such as new roads*) [*See map]. The zoning regulations Initially designed to prevent excessive density created serious problems because many businesses did not have enough space or could not raise capital to expand; accordingly developers erected tall buildings without sufficient setback or parking permits* [*See photo]. Traffic congestion is now becoming increasingly difficult to avoid because major intersections are located close together within walking distance† [*See map], often putting pedestrians at risk if they do not cross busy streets immediately adjacent to their destinations† [*See photo] . Many residents feel obliged “to take care” that their children cross busy streets so they can get back into their homes quickly† [*See photos]. Roselle, New Jersey is a city located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,854 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Middlesex County and the second-largest city in New Jersey after Newark. Roselle was first settled by Dutch farmers in 1664. The town site was chosen because of its strategic location on two small rivers: the Delaware and Raritan Rivers. In 1824, Roselle became part of what would become Trenton Township. The first settler to live in what is now Roselle was Pieter van der Velde who arrived from Holland on July 10th, 1664. He built a log cabin near present day Main Street and Clifford Avenue (now Routes 9 and 25). Van der Velde's family continued to live there until 1701 when they moved to Wilmington Township where they founded a farm called "Fritsche". After a few years of farmingoperation their son Hendrick inherited the farm and renamed it "Roselle" after his mother's maiden name which he had heard while attending college at Rutgers University. The first mill wheel that ran in Roselle was probably manufactured by Nicholas de Villeaux around 1710 or 1711 with corn meal being ground into flour for baking goods such as cookies and breads etc., however this information is not confirmed by historians anymore due to lack of evidence or documentation.. In 1787 three brothers named John, Peter and Nicholas started a gristmill on Main Street opposite Center Street that saw production up until 1861 when it stopped running due to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.. From then on until 1861 mills were produced out west primarily at Oneonta but also some here in Roselle too during that time period. Jessie Buhlers who operated 2 grocery stores between 1915-1976 (one still open) took over local operation from her mothers restaurant business started about 1910 which continued under new management until 1976 before closing down due to poor health problems finally succumbed to leukemia 3 weeks shy of her 100th birthday party; Mrs Buhlers' daughter Linda kept the business going for many more years until it closed again in 2009 having been sold/traded multiple times over the last few years... So much for history books! During World War II local residents formed an all-volunteer military detachment known as COAST GUARD where they served actively both locally & overseas... later contributing members formed THE WOODBURY FESTIVAL OF PENNINERY BALLROOMS which took place annually starting in 1978 with major events such as state dinner & presidential inauguration taking place inside The Palace Ballroom located just off State Route 9A next door to current day Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant located right across from High School… so much for community spirit! In 1951 Robert Lusk opened his own general store adjacent to Parkland Hospital followed by Harry’s Hardware Store opened adjacent thereto soon thereafter becoming one of NJ’s most popular retail properties... these businesses are now long gone but their memories will stay with us forever! In addition several other businesses have also closed down throughout recent decades including: JCPenney (1996), Sears (1994), Kmart(1984), Dunwoody Furniture(1983), H&R Block(1980) making way for today’s GAS STATION plaza housing several large discount retailers like Macy’s, JC Penney & Sears plus fitness centers like Gold's Gymnasium & Residence Inn nearby along with numerous restaurants including MomofukuKo BBQ restaurants & Indian Takeout restaurants within walking distance making life much easier for everyday citizens! From humble beginnings Roseslc began growing rapidly becoming one of Middlesex County's most important cities thanks largely to its thriving industrial base established during World War II when millions dollars were generated through manufacturing products used throughout North America such as munitions plants critical war machinery parts etc.......
