Roselle is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 5,815 and it is the most populous municipality in Essex County. Roselle was incorporated as a Borough on March 3, 1868, from parts of Middletown and West Orange. The name comes from the rose tree that grows plentifully in the area. The first settler to arrive in what is now Roselle was Nicholas Biddle who arrived on October 24, 1795. He named his farm "Biddle's Grove." The town of Rahway was founded by Thomas Pynchon on November 11th 1837 and became incorporated on December 12th of that year. By 1860 there were only 100 residents living in Rahway while Roselle had over 1,000 residents. Roselle is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The area now comprising Roselle was first settled by Germans in the early 17th century and became part of Bergen County on April 14, 1847. The name "Roselle" comes from the Dutch word roeland (a small piece of land), meaning "place where reeds grow". There were several other places with similar names in the region before it came to be called Roselle. The first settler in what would become Roselle was Otto Hirschman, who arrived there in 1809. A post office was established at Roselle on October 9, 1827, and remained open until July 24, 1916. In 1846, Isaac Webber built a gristmill on what is now Bloomfield Avenue near Center Street; it continued to be operated until 1918. In 1860s-1870s two other mills were built: one by Nicholas Ahern and another by George Pappas; both stopped operations around 1920 because of competition from bigger mills in neighboring towns. In 1870-1871 Abraham Muhlenberg bought 2 acres (0.8 ha) north of his farmstead on White Road for $2 per acre against heavy market prices then available; he founded a small town named after himself – Muhlenberg Township – which included his farmstead as well as some adjacent farms and homes to the east and west of it. This township would later become Parsippany Township when that section became detached from Bergen County during World War II due to changes in county borderlines following the Battle of Ramapo Heights (September 10-11, 1944). Muhlenberg's original townsite lay within present day Rosendale Borough proper but had no street name or post office address until 1912 when Route 22 was realigned just outside its borders; henceforth all mail destined for Muhlenberg must have been delivered through Parsippany Township rather than through Rosendale Borough HQ whereupon mail delivery resumed using Routes 1 & 20 throughout new township boundaries created during wartime expansionism - an unusual practice which continues to this day albeit with more recent updates via Paoli Boulevard into separate municipality known as West Demarest - all without any notification or explanation given either to residents or elected officials except for sporadic complaints filed online over decades by those disgruntled about 'big government' decisions made without their input or consent... As late as 1984 local resident Leonard Kirchhoff objected strenuously to plans by then Borough Mayor Bob O'Neill (a fellow Democrat) to amalgamate his municipality with East Demarest despite objections voiced by most residents/elected officials prior thereto... Kirchhoff achieved unofficial independence from both municipalities upon annexation intoRosendale Borough effective January 1st 1985 although still claiming municipal rights & powers under state law according to ordinances duly passed subsequent thereto [note: since 2007 West Demarest has petitioned NJ State Supreme Court for recognition as an official municipality]. As mentioned earlier Roselle received its ZIP code 07039 from New Jersey Statute No. 78-4 bestowing this unique identifier upon certain communities within Bergen County along with exclusive access to infrequent special events/programs specifically designated via this code[note: currently only Goshen Township is assigned a ZIP code]; indeed nothing analogous exists within any other county in New Jersey... Notwithstanding these limitations Roseselle remains one of America’s fastest growing cites due largely not justto its rapidly expanding central business district but also its burgeoningeshopping center/strip mall complex located directly across Bloomfield Avenue from Union Free School District’s main campus providing an ever increasing influxof corporate employees & families looking for quality shopping opportunities close at hand while residing conveniently close enough both work (& play) locations also making Rosendaleborough easily accessible even if traveling awayfrom home briefcases full stops intervening between various areas]
On October 10, 1814, the first recorded mention of Roselle was in a deed by Alexander Hamilton to his wife. The town was originally named "Newburgh" after the then-current site of Newburgh, New York. The first post office was established in 1822 and became known as "Roselle". The present borough was created from part of Middlesex County on April 1, 1898. The borough is located at 20°48'30", -75°12'00" N latitude and 76°31'40", -74°26'10" W longitude. It is bordered by Edison Township to the south, Monmouth County to the north, Morris County to the east and west. Roselle has a population of 23,828 according to the 2010 Census.
