Roselle is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The village of Roselle was incorporated on March 21, 1837 and named for General Ambrose E. Rosewicz, who had fought with American forces during the Mexican-American War. It became a borough on October 14, 1888. On November 9, 1920, after being approved by voters via referendum,[2] the borough attained full city status and received its own mayor and City Council. The Borough of Roselle annexed the villages of Deer Park (renamed West Deer Park), East Deer Park (renamed East Camden), North Camden (renamed South Camden), and South Whitehall Township on February 2nd, 1924[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of , all land。 The borough borders Pennsauken Township to the east; Camden County to the south; Gloucester County to the west; and Atlantic County to the north. As of 2010, there were 7,814 people living in Roselle Borough.[4] Of these 5 percent are Hispanic or Latino residents which increased from 1 percent in 2000[5], as well as 8 percent who are registered as Democrats[6]. There are also 2 percent who identify as Republicans[7], while 3 percent say they have no affiliation at all with any political party.[8] At that time there were also 1% households made up of individuals who did not have an identification card which decreased from 4% in 2000 to 0% in 2010.[9][10] In terms of race/ethnicity within each ward: black or African American makes up 30%, white alone makes up 20%, Asian makes up 6%, Hispanic or Latino make up 4%, other races make up 12%. Outreach programs run by religious groups account for 10% or more representation among residents in each ward – this percentage decreases slightly but significantly for minority groups when compared to 2000 where outreach accounted for 25%.

Roselle is a borough in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the borough had a population of 20,814 and an area of . It was named for Roselia de la Vega, who settled in the area in 1795. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Roselle were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1624. They called the location "Rosenvelt" because of its high rose bush production. The first European settler to purchase land here was Nicholas Harwood in 1664. One hundred years later, John White purchased 1,000 acres (40 hectares) of land here and began developing it into what is today Roselle Township. In 1812-1813 sessions were held at Montclair on how to appropriate lands east of Market Street which included parts of what is now Roselle Township as well as portions of Mercer County. At this time there were ten townships within Mercer County but only five survived until 1861 when they became six districts: East Brunswick, Gloucester Heights/Vernon Hill/Middlesex Hills/Roselle/West Orange. In 1869 referendum question No. 7 asked residents whether they desired an additional township or division within Mercer County for business and industrial purposes; no votes were cast on that question however referendum question No 9 asked residents if they desired annexation by Camden or Trenton due to their proximity to each city’s water supply systems; over 60% voted “No” on both questions with only a few voting “Yes” outnumbering those who opposed annexation by Trenton by two to one margin according to unofficial results from 1870 Census records (the official full enumeration took place 10 years later). On January 1st 1870 all township functions including elections were reorganized into seven new Boroughs with boundaries set by acts passed by the New Jersey Legislature upon ratification following the statehood process: Edison Plains – Ironbound Township; Glassboro – Glen Ridge Township; Hackensack – Somerset Heights Borough; South Brunswick – Park Avenue Borough; Roselle - Central Avenue Borough. The Act establishing these seven new boroughs prohibited any consolidation between municipalities and allowed for continued service thereby preserving local government structure as well as maintaining public scrutiny during merger discussions which would have occurred should any municipality wish to secede from their original district (in this case Edison Plains would have become South Brunswick while Glassboro would have become Hackensack). Since incorporation as a borough there has been growth associated with education and job opportunities along with development pressures brought about by risingresidential prices and traffic congestion downtown caused primarily by Interstate 95 accessions that have put pressure on transportation options such as buses and carshare programs available throughout Jersey City periphery areas like Toms River and Bricktown Center dating back decades before I-95 made landfall on these areas creating bottlenecks that impacted people commuting into Newark or Paterson every day during rush hours causing long commutes instead of quick trips home like people used to be able to do without fear for their safety when traveling through those areas
Roselle was founded in 1795 by Captain John Smith and his family. The town became a borough in 1853 and then a city in 1898. It is named for the rose, which is abundant in the area.
