He created a small platform out of some logs and began to shoot at them with his rifle. The first guns used for target shooting were rifles. In 1865, there was a gun show held in Roselle Park and the first pistols were auctioned off. It is said that Abraham Lincoln was one of the attendees at this event. Roselle Park is a small town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Uniontown, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Roselle Park settlers arrived in 1781. The town was founded on a large tract of land that had been donated by Sir Nicholas Robinson. In 1812, the first post office was established in the town and it remained so until 1876. The community name originated from a rosebush that grew near the original meeting house. Roselle Park became an incorporated borough on April 14, 1912, from portions of Newark and Uniontown Boroughs. On December 1, 1916, it became a village before becoming an incorporated township on January 3rd of that year. On October 15th of 2009 Township voters passed a referendum to convert to an open carry township with no gun restrictions

The Roselle Park neighborhood in Jersey City, New Jersey was founded in 1881. The area now known as Roselle Park was originally part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. The first settler in what is now Roselle Park was John de Wit, who purchased land in 1784. De Wit's grandson, Jacob de Wit, and his wife Rachel built a home on the property that still stands today. Roselle Park also saw some early development with the construction of a school and post office there in 1827. A later structure on the same site became Roselle Hospital which provided medical care for residents of Jersey City until it closed its doors in 1957. When the city of Jersey City was incorporated on April 12, 1896, much of what is now Roselle Park fell within its boundaries. However, by 1907 most of the land around present-day South Ferry had been annexed to make way for new neighborhoods such as Bergen County Heights and Engram Heights proper. The annexation did not affect Roselle Park however as it continued to be governed by local government under separate rules and regulations until 1912 when all municipalities were consolidated into one entity under Governor Alfred Mifflin’s administration. During World War II many businesses located near South FerryChamberlain Drive (now called Livingston Avenue) were used to produce weapons for the war effort including leather production at Fords Mill and munitions manufacturing at Atlantic Arsenal both located just south of Roses Lane; these factories are now gone but their namesakes remain: Fords Mill Road (now named Chambers Street), Atlantic Arsenal Road (now called George Washington Boulevard), and Meadowlands Drive (now called Livingston Avenue). In 1947, following demolition of homes along Chambers Street between Rutgers University & Newark Airport due to air pollution from those facilities, an effort began to create a park in memory of those lost lives; this park would eventually become known as Roselle Park itself after being donated by Mrs.-Edith Greenough Rubinoff whose family had resided on Chambers Street between Newark Airport & Rutgers University since 1915!
