Roselle Park is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 15,890 at the 2010 census and 18,723 as of 2018. It is part of the Newark-Newark metropolitan area. The first settler in Roselle Park was Abram "Abe" French in 1798. French named his community after his home village of Rosièle near Toulouse in France. In 1831, the name changed to Roselle when it became apparent that there were many riselles scattered throughout New Jersey due to its natural beauty and rich agricultural soils. In 1865, Roses residents voted to incorporate as a borough regardless of whether they wanted school board members from outside the township or not because their homes within the borough would have been taken away by development if they did not submit themselves for incorporation into a new municipality with those same powers and responsibilities. On May 14, 1870, Borough President Nevin Sandomir signed an ordinance amending the Township Code which made Roselle Park an incorporated municipality with full power to levy taxes and provide services such as fire protection, police service and public libraries (then known as "Public Schools"). In 1898 when Roselle Park enlarged its borders by annexing two other townships – South Orange and Caldwell – it also annexed what is now known as West Orange Township which sat east of Roses on Raritan Valley Road. This annexation created what is now called East Orange Township On July 1st 1914 rosellepark increased its boundaries again when it annexed Plantation Creek Township from Caldwell County - making it located entirely within present dayroselle park. This annexation again created what is now known as Northumberland Township north of present dayRaritan Valley Road between Bellefonte Avenue on the south side and Maple Shade Boulevard on the north side giving rosellepark an overall length of . becoming one of only four municipalities statewide (the others being Hunterdon Boroughs Trenton & Camden) where all five wards are divided evenly among three political subdivisions: wards 1-4 are represented by Councilmen Anthony Russo (D), John Pascarella Jr.(D), Angelo Spinelli(I) while Ward 5 includes Mayor Edwin Evers (D). During this time rosellepark also passed through various expansions including annexing two more Townships viz; Swedesboro & Pleasant Plains on November 10th 1956 while still living under its original name; these expansions merged forming today's current name - Roselle Park - fulfilling both namesakes' desires to be one entity since they had no choice but to merge due to their shared history/location/community impact."
