Roselle Park is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,844 at the2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton metropolitan area. Roselle Park was formed on July 1, 1868 from parts of Elizabethtown Township and Ridgewood Township. The first settler in what is now Roselle Park was Nicholas Fenton who arrived there on October 20, 1798 with his family from Queensbury, England. He bought 2 acres (0.8 km2) of land on the east side of River Road near Presentation Avenue for £10 sterling ($13). On February 11, 1870 John Kapp recorded that he had paid $40 to purchase 3/4 acre (1 ha) of land south of present-day York Street from Nicholas Fenton for $185.22 worth of goods and services which included "a sawmill". The property became known as Kapp's Mill Pond or Fish Pond due to its location close to the then large body of water called Fish Kill that is now called Roosevelt Boulevard. In 1872 James Loughran set up a grist mill here on 4 acres (1 ha) situated between present-day Clinton and Dickinson Streets just north of Kapp's Mill Pond where he sold flour and other products until 1902 when it stopped operations because too much salt was brought into town by travelers using Loughran's millrace supply line . In 1875 an addition to the mill complex were two houses used as storage sheds for produce before it became a grocery store operated by Mrs. John Duryea until 1916 when it closed down again due to prohibition . In 1899 another store also opened in town - Mrs J Miller’s - which continued operation until 1922 when it moved out into Beechwood Avenue after years being run by Mrs H Madden who also served as postmaster For many years this Main Street grocery store served as the only one open in town so people could get their groceries without having to go out into the countryside where they would have had to buy eggs or milk from someone else’s farmstead
Roselle Park was first settled by Dutch traders in the 17th century. In 1814, it became a parish within the Diocese of Newark. In 1847, Roselle Park became part of the newly created Township of Bloomfield Township. In 1901, Bloomfield Township was dissolved and Roselle Park became an independent township. In 1949, as part of a municipal consolidation plan in New Jersey, Roselle Park merged with neighboring East Orange to form one municipality. The municipality name has been changed several times over its history including from Roselle Park to East Orange Township and finally to Newark City Councilwoman Christine Quinn's current name for the city proper - Newark Mayor Cory Booker's former namesake - Newark City Councilwoman Christine Quinn."
