Roselle Park is a city in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 26,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Union City, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Roselle" comes from two places: Roselle Farm and the nearby Rahway River. The first place was mentioned by Nicholas de Montresor in 1485 as being "five miles distant from Newark". The second reference to Roselle came in 1745 when John Stevens of Rahway Manor named his estate after the village of Roses in Flanders, Netherlands. In 1814, James Kapp sold 10 acres (40 hectares) of land on the east side of Trenton Avenue near Morris Street to Abel DeFrancesco for $1,000; this was known as Adams Mill Road today. In 1827-28 John Haughton constructed a mill on what is now called Kapp's Mill Pond which he named after his father-in-law Cornelius Kapp (1762 –1834). When it became necessary to widen Trenton Avenue for vehicular traffic in 1844, Samuel Morse donated his entire landside lot including that now bounded by Clinton Boulevard and Garden State Parkway to make way for the widening project. When Trenton Avenue was widened again in 1908 by then-Mayor James O'Keefe and later Governor Alfred Ewing Jr., they routed Route 22 through Roselle Park instead of heading south through South Orange Township along Center Street. This enabled Roselle Park residents access to their new city center without having to leave their homes or go through central Newark. The population increased rapidly during World War II due to both military production and influxes of refugees from Europe; by 1945, there were over 60 families living in Roselle Park proper with an estimated total population of 1008 people. At that time rosevelt high school also opened its doors for students! A major development occurred during this time when artificial turf was developed on what are now jogger trails located off Highwood Road between Ridgefield Boulevard and Clinton Boulevard - this allowed parents who couldn't afford real lawns or gardens access to quality exercise without having their childrenaced every day! Roselle Park is a city in central Jersey, United States. It was formed on October 25, 1876 from the merger of two smaller towns, Roselle and Haddonfield. The population was 27,872 at the 2010 census. The name "Roselle" comes from the original Dutch settlers who named their town Roeselare because of the rose bushes they found there. The first residents of Roselle Park were Congregationalists from New England. They built a small cabin on Ridge Road just outside of the city limits in 1876. Haddonfield Township started to form on October 25, 1876 when it merged with Roselle Park to form one municipality. In 1907, Haddonfield Township annexed what are now East Rutherford and Paramus Heights neighborhoods east of Route 9. These annexations made up most of present-day Roselle Park after Haddonfield Township abandoned its rural core for an urban area that would be served by buses and trains. In 1920, South Orange Township took over control of municipal services in Haddonfield Township whilestill retaining responsibility for roads and public buildings within its boundaries; this arrangement continued until 1962 when all municipalities in Hunterdon County were consolidated into larger county units under the direction of Governor James Egan Jr.). Thus began a period where village status was lost as municipalities became boroughs or cities within larger counties - something which continues to this day in some cases (e.g., Rahway). By 1960, only 2 percent of Roselle's population lived inside the city limits while 98 percent lived within South Orange Township or East Rutherford Borough which had taken over control for municipal services fromSouth Orange Township."
