The present day clubhouse was built in 1978 on part of the original fortification. Today, River Edge Rifle and Pistol Club is one of the last remaining organizations in New Jersey that still uses traditional firearms training methods to maintain its membership base and proficiency level with their rifles and pistols.
River Edge is a small town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It was founded in 1784 by the brothers Anthony and Nicholas DeSalvo. The name of the town was derived from the Raritan River which flows through it. The population of River Edge was 9,898 as of the 2010 Census. The river that runs through River Edge is named after Nicholas de Salvo, one of the founders of River Edge. The de Salvos were originally from Italy and immigrated to America in 1764. They organized a farm on what is now Route 22 near where they lived until their death in 1802. The land that forms today's part of River Edge was originally owned by Maurice Livingston who purchased it from the DeSalvos some years later. The first post office at River Edge was established on December 12, 1804, under the name of Westville (later renamed Eastville). On November 3, 1825, it changed its name to Easton (later renamed Hunterdon). In 1870, it became a borough within Hunterdon County and remained so until 1984 when it became a township within Hunterdon County again. In 1927-1928, during construction on Interstate 95 in New Jersey, parts of Easton were destroyed by an engine failure that left an area about two miles wide and three miles long across portions of rural Hunterdon County without power for almost four days due to faulty wired switchgear; this event is also known as "The Catastrophe". As a result of this accident many homes were damaged or destroyed and many people lost their jobs; however no one was ever criminally prosecuted for their roles in this disaster. Today there are few reminders that such an event occurred here more than 100 years ago - only scars remain whereWINDOWS WERE REPLACED BY STEEL GATES AND A FENCE around THE INFRASTRUCTURE represent what happened then instead of now; while motorists passing through town still generally encounter rusting chicken coops at intersections or odd scraps remaining from demolished buildings formerly occupied by local businesses now relegated to open space like soccer fields or playgrounds...the village has managed largely successfully to maintain its essential character despite these challenges over time... Today much has changed since then but I can remember my childhood home sitting just downriver from here surrounded by those high steel fences It seems like small towns have been struggling with various problems lately - most notably rents prices hikes & lack thereof - but River Edge has somehow managed to stay afloat even though all odds seem against them! One reason may be its tight-knit community characterized by mutual support system which allows individuals to rely upon each other for help if needed - something not found often among larger communities nowadays
