It also has more storage capacity than any previous model, making it easier for people to store their firearms safely inside while still allowing them easy access should they need to remove them during maintenance or repairs. River Edge is a small, unincorporated community located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The population was 544 at the 2010 census. River Edge is east of Seaside Heights and west of Asbury Park. It is named after the river that flows through it. The first European to visit River Edge was Giovanni da Verrazzano on October 15, 1493, during his second voyage along the North American coast. He named it Piscataqua after the rapids on the tidal river near present-day Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The town started as a ferry stop on the Raritan River and grew slowly until 1923 when it merged with Asbury Park to form one municipality. Changes over time have affected River Edge's character: in recent years its economy has been largely based on tourism; however, there are also a number of businesses involved in manufacturing and services such as transportation and environmental consulting. A post office called River Edge was established in 1903, but continued to be used intermittently until 1965 when it became part of Neptune Township. In 2007, River Edge became an annexe of Monmouth County and an incorporated community under the name "New Jersey" had been proposed for both townships since 2006 by then-Monmouth County Executive Joseph J. Corbett II (D). However, local opposition from residents led to Community Board 1 rejecting both plans in November 2007; now only annexed Monmouth County remains within New Jersey's borders

River Edge is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,644 at the 2010 census. River Edge is part of the Trenton–Ewing Township Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1795 by Loyalists from British North America who fled during the American Revolutionary War. The name "River Edge" is derived from the Delaware River and its tributaries that skirt the town's eastern border. It was first called Newtown but changed its name to River Edge in 1837 to avoid confusion with Newtown, Pennsylvania, which had also been founded as a Loyalist refugee settlement in 1795. In 1849, gold was discovered on what is now known as Oldwick Hill within walking distance of River Edge; this led to an influx of new settlers and development around the hill. By 1870, most of present-day River Edge had been established and numerous buildings were erected around Oldwick Hill including a courthouse and schoolhouse. The growth of riverfront real estate along the Delaware River prompted further development in nearby Trenton beginning in the early 20th century; this led to increased traffic congestion on Route 9 near where it enters Newark Bay and resulted in various transportation improvements being made at that time such as building a viaduct over Routes 9 and 101 to improve access to downtown Trenton. Today, much of what once characterized riverfront development has been replaced by institutional buildings such as schools, libraries, businesses (including an ice cream parlor), hospitals/medical clinics and more recently apartments and condos developments along Route 9 between Newark Bayou and Princeton Road (formerly known as "The Boulevard"). However, some key landmarks still extant include Oldwick Hill courthouse which served until 1975 when it closed down due to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy; Little Egg Harbor Bridge which links Rutgers University with River edge via Hudson Avenue; former ice cream parlor at 515riveredge avenue which closed down in 2006 after years ofOperations;and local landmark church located at 611 oldwick road (now home to Holy Name Parish).
The first Europeans to explore the area were Dutch traders in 1624. The earliest known reference to an Indian village on the river was in a map dating back to 1709. In 1814, the United States acquired territory from Spain as part of the Mexican–American War. On January 1, 1815, New Jersey became a state of the United States and its capital was Trenton. In 1834, construction began on what is now Princeton University and soon after other colleges and universities were founded in Trenton. The city experienced rapid growth during the 19th century due to textile manufacturing and railroads that brought workers and businesses into town.
