In 1906, Buffalo News publishers Hiram Powers and Julius Rosenwald merged their company into Hearst Corporation which led to an increase in circulation forgun magazines across America. Architect Louis Sullivan designed a new printing press that could handle larger numbers of issues than previous presses; this new press allowedfor continued growth forgun magazines throughout American history." River Edge is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. It is the only municipality in Mercer County and it was formed on February 12, 1837 from the merger of two adjacent villages. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. River Edge is nicknamed "The Valley" because of its location on the valley floor between Two Forks and Elizabethtown Heights. The first settlers to River Edge were farmers who arrived around 1800. By 1830, most of the farms in what is now River Edge had been bought by local families or organized as companies. In 1836, a group of farmers led by Philip Nuttall donated land to make up for an error in their map which showed them living near Newark instead of River Edge. This donation became known as Nuttall'sValley. In 1850, James D’Angelo founded D’Angelo & Co., one of the first cotton mills in New Jersey. D'Angelo also ran a grocery store and post office here until his death in 1865. His grandson James D'Angelo Jr., continued this business until 1907 when he sold it to Vincennes Cotton Mills Company Limited Partnership (later part of Girdler Holdings Inc.), which operated it until 1974 when it was sold to Weehawken Mills Corporation In 1881-1882, John Prentice built The General Store and opened it as an all-purpose store that served everything from groceries to clothing and boots until 1966 when they closed down due to community protests over pricing practices at merchants such as JCPenney In 1902-1903, Gertrude Aiken opened her doors as First Baptist Church with services starting at 7am and continuing until 3pm During World War I (1914-1918), many factories were set up along Main Street including those belonging to Wachtel & Sons Departmental Machine Works (now WachtellKruger), Singer Sewing Company (later Dresser Industries) and Fenton Mfg Terminal Company A post office called "Newark" was established in 1838 but changed its name to "River Edge" on October 1st of that year after being moved from Newark . On July 14th 1863 Union soldiers burned down The General Store due to complaints about high prices being charged there for goods brought back home by Soldiers who had fought during the war

River Edge, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. River Edge has been inhabited by the Lenape people since before European arrival. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now River Edge were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1624 and developed a small farm on the east bank of the Raritan River. They named their land "Riverside" after their home country of Holland. The area that now includes River Edge was first settled by English colonists in 1714 when they erected a ford across the Raritan River and named it Westfield because of its location west of Hackensack Township on Long Island Sound. The town's original boundary was located just south of present-day East Orange Avenue and Delaware Avenue, which are today known as Iselin Road and Woolridge Avenue respectively. In 1777, after an outbreak of violence between British troops and Lenape Indians near what is now Bound Brook township (now called Edison), General George Washington ordered Colonel John Howe to take command of Fort Lee on Amboy Neck in order to quell any potential Indian unrest along theNJ coastlines. As Howe relocated his forces northward along the border with Pennsylvania County towards Josephstown Heights on Monmouth Lake, he discovered that most all Native Americans living near Fort Lee had evacuated during those days' peaceable encounters with British forces; only a few hundred natives remained within Detrickville Township (now Union Township) southeast of where Howe's forces were quartered ashore at Fordham Harbor Naval Station (later renamed Elizabethtown). In response to this discovery, Howe built Fort Clinton at present-day Old Bridge Street and Elizabethtown Creek from July 1 through October 15th, 1777 under license from King George II joint Commissioner for War Sir Edmund Randolph; this fortification helped protect New Brunswick from repeated attacks by French pirates operating out of Newport Bayou à la Carte during that period On November 5th following Lord Dunmore's Invasion into Canada (the pretext being secret military shipments undertaken by American rebels), Patriot leaders brought about martial law throughout much of North America until such time as Dunmore could be deported back to England aboard HMS Gorilla off Cape May Bay on December 12th—a move approved by Parliamentarian Major-General Charles Cornwallis himself! Although some militia units did return home prior to Gorilla's departure ([18] local historians have suggested anywhere from 10% up to 95% or more local militiamen returned home among other reasons]), Crown Point Light House still stands atop Montague Hill overlooking Elizabethtown despite never having been manned nor operated during wartime... [it] wasn't until 1812 when Congress appropriated $10 thousand dollars for renovation/replacement/updating aforementioned light house... [this money was eventually used] also for erecting additional buildings including barracks for Marines garrisoned at Elizabethtown LightHouse beginning September 25th 1814 until abandoned approximately two years later due largely[to lack thereof] ... finally being abandoned outright in 1830 without ever being replaced or repaired! The Stevens brothers opened a grocery store in 1887 which became one of the first stores open in what is now River Edge. After purchasing land adjacent to their store they began developing it into what is today known as Riversedge Park which included a ball field, picnic areas and several homes dating back to 1896 when Mrs. Sarah Haddon purchased these lands from developers James Fenton & Sons based outof Philadelphia PA.. There are many interesting stories about this park such as one where Mrs Haddon refused permission for her son James Jr., age 6 years old at the time but said "Please show me how you're going to make me happy without my mother around." Mr Fenton obliged and built one half mile long swingset complete with lights and music equipment right next door so James Jr could play outside without penalty! Another story says that early residents Kenzie & Kathy Griggs decided they would rather raise chickens than buy eggs so each family took an extra job caring for eggs while others hunted game nearby... Eventually both parents got sickly ill too young To continue leading such difficult lives full time but left beautiful gardens behind They passed away suddenly less then 2 weeks shy Of their 50th anniversary And leavebehind Many wonderful memories They will never forget!
The River Edge area of New Jersey was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century. The area became a part of Washington County in 1837, and then Middlesex County in 1849. In 1914, New Jersey transferred control of the river to the United States government, and the boroughs of Camden and Philadelphia were added to Borough Park. The boroughs were consolidated into a single municipality in 1966.
