Ringwood, NJ is a small town located in Union County, New Jersey. The population was 5,241 at the 2010 census. In 1828, Ringwood was founded by Isaac Asbury and John Colfax. It was named after the ring of trees that surrounded Mr. Asbury's farm. Since its establishment, Ringwood has been a center for gunsmithing and firearms manufacturing. Today, it is home to several factories that make pistols, rifles and shotguns as well as components for those products. One of the most important companies in Ringwood's history is Colt Firearms Company (now Colt Defense). Founded in 1855 by George Washington Colt, this company manufactured handguns and revolvers until 1978 when it merged with Browning Manufacturing Company (now BAE Systems) to form Colt-Browning Corporation . This company manufactured pistols including the Model 1911A1 pistol which became famous for its accuracy and durability during World War II . Ringwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,702 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to Ringwood were George and Martha Morin who arrived in 1795. The town was formed from parts of two other towns: Secaucus and Plainsboro. Ringwood became an incorporated town on December 1, 1853. The name comes from the ring of trees that line the east side of Main Street between Center and Maple Streets. The Morin family had a log cabin located on what is now Elmhurst Road near present-day Joyce Drive which they used as their home until 1827 when they moved to Plainfield where they built a new home. In 1830, George Morin married Catherine Beal who later became the wife of John Beal who ran a farm at Ringwood for many years before moving it to Meadowlands in 1849. In 1857, Ringwood incorporated as a city under the name "Newark." By 1860 there were over 100 residents living in Ringwood with businesses including four stores and one post office. In 1865-66, New Jersey's first electric streetcar line was laid down through Ringwood serving all areas within five miles including Newark Penn Station and various other points northward; this helped stimulate growth within the city limits during this time periodciting "the great increase in business consequent upon its Gilmore Railway construction." One reason for this growth may have been due to increased access to jobs available in neighboring municipalities thanks to railroad expansion into this area during these years such as Camden Junction being opened up by General Electric Railroad (now Amtrak). A fire destroyed most of downtown Newark on November 5th 1830 resulting in $50000 damage which led Mayor Robert Morris to call for plans for ring road system throughout Newark similar to that proposed for Philadelphia by William Makepeace Thacher just months prior however nothing came of it until after Morris' death some ten years later on October 2nd 1850 after his successor Nicholas Biddle placed order with Benjamin Franklin Grimes for rails along Market Street providing transportation options away from central business district such as Broad Street wherein goods could be delivered or picked up without having to leave town center via carts or horse drawn wagons; this would eventually lead towards incorporation of Newark into City Hall Department store company becoming known as" Grimes & McNamara". In 1870 an addition called Dunbar Square was added adjacent Ringside Avenue off Cherry Hill Avenue which housed several stores including hardware store J H Smith & Sons; telephone exchange Morse Telephone Company; post office G W Howe; schoolhouse Academy School house No 4 (1872-1920s)and more recently reenacted restaurant "The Broken Arrow" at 201 Essex St since demolished . From 1871 - 1886 there were also two breweries operated by local businessmen Daniel Dolan (Duncans Brewery), John A Hogan (John A Hogan Brewery)and Harry Caffrey(Harry Caffrey Brewery): both closed down circa 1920s but left behind significant brewing residue still extant today at various locations around townland like Weehawken Corporate Park & Van Dyke Ave., Old Bridge Township Football Stadium Complex & Norristown Racetrack Complex.- Today's manufacturing activity takes place primarily within nearby Raritan Valley although some companies have presence outside township limits too eGroups Inc., Maserati North America LLC., Allstate insurance company etc.; major employers include Raritan Valley Regional Hospital Authority.(RVHA)), Teva Pharmaceuticals USA LLP., PSE&G Chemicals Corporation among others.. According To Census 2000 resident population amounts ranged from 10k - 14k while according To USGS Geographic Names Database resident number increases range from 6k - 8k making total population size 16k+. However recent reappraisals show current population size ranging from 9k - 10k making totalpopulation size 19k+ giving local government authority authority somewhat greater elbowroom should future populations exceed 20k+ given existing infrastructure/capacity

Ringwood is located in Union County, New Jersey. The population was 3,626 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Trenton metropolitan area. The town was founded by farmers in 1814. The first post office was established in 1815. Ringwood Township was created in 1840 and became a borough in 1886. Ringwood Borough merged with Glassboro Township in 1951 to become Ringwood Municipal Borough. In 1960, the township and borough were combined to form a new municipal borough called Ringwood Township. On July 1, 1998, the municipalities of Glassboro Township and South Brunswick Township (both located within Ringwood Municipal Borough) were consolidated into a single municipality known as “South Brunswick” because theyshared an overlapping downtown area and shared borders with both townships). On October 14, 2009, it was announced that all three municipalities would be dissolved and their residents would move to new municipalities which had been formed by merging Glassboro Township with South Brunswick Township.
