In 1814-1815 John Smeaton built a millrace and gristmill around which grew a large commercial forest for papermaking purposes. By 1825 Ringwood had become one of the largest towns in Bucks County with an estimated population of 25 to 30 thousand people. Ringwood is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 Census. It is located on the east side of the New Brunswick River and within Monmouth County. The first occupants of Ringwood were Native Americans who built their homes along the riverbank in what is now Ringwood Township. Some of these structures still stand and are used as community centers or for other purposes such as education and cultural events. In 1814, when Middlesex County was formed from portions of Monmouth and Sussex Counties, Ringwood became one of its initial townships. In 1830, Daniel Webster built a dam across the river in what is now Uniondale Township to provide power for his sawmill at which he operated until 1847. The mill closed down after years of decline but it left an important mark on Ringwood history. AfterWebster's death, his two sons took over operations and continued to operate it until 1918 until it was purchased byGeneral Electric Company who turned it into an experimental research plant known as " Princeton Junction". On July 1st 1938, Princeton Junction was renamed Ringwood after then Mayor James Fenton's wife Alice Atherton ringedTurner Hall (now part of Princeton University). In 1946, following World War II when many small towns throughout America lost their manufacturing base due to wartime production shortages, Ringwood developed a program called "The Green Revolution" which aimed to revive agriculture in post-war America through new technology advances such as fertilizers and pesticides. This effort led to increased economic development in Ringside while also creating thousands of jobs during the postwar period. Today much of that progress has been brought back home with projects like planting trees near Interstate 95 or renovating old factories into living spaces for families and businesses alike
Ringwood was once a small town in the township of West Orange, New Jersey. It is now part of Ringwood Township. In 1826, Ringwood was chartered as a town and named for its location at a bend in the Raritan River. The first buildings were built on what is now Borough Square and State Street. The population of Ringwood reached 100 people by 1830. The Panic of 1837dbrought about an economic decline for Ringwood because many farmers left to find work in the industrial cities during that time period. However, by 1840, Ringwood had recovered and had a population of 350 people. By 1845, the community had grown to 1,500 people and it became known as one of the most prosperous towns in Monmouth County. ringwoods businesses thrived during this time including shipbuilding, lumbering and wagon manufacturing. In 1849-50, some new development occurred when two large estates were purchased within Ringwood limits: Easton Place (later called Easton Park) and Mount Airy Manor (later called Mount Airy). These developments increased the population by 50%. In 1860-61 there was another significant growth when three Volunteer associations were formed within Ringwood: The Odd Fellows’ Lodge #2; Freemasons’ Lodge #4; Ancient Order Of Horatio Alger #1A—the largest lodge east of Trenton at that time.—and these groups began providing social services to the residents which helped promote economic stability and prosperity within the community. In 1868-69 an important fire destroyed many homes in Ringside but did not damage any churches or other properties within town limits—an event which helped spur growth within town again during this era as property values soared due to newfound wealth from new development outside town boundaries! However, arson continued to be a problem throughout much of this century so effective policing efforts were needed to prevent such incidents from becoming commonplace!
