Ringwood, New Jersey is a borough in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,541 at the 2010 census. Ringwood was formed from part of Rahway Township on April 14, 1923. It is named for Samuel Ringwood (1762-1815), an Englishman who settled in the area in 1797. The first permanent settler in what is now Ringwood was Nicholas Dobbins who arrived on July 4, 1797 and established a small cabin near the present day intersection of Asbury Avenue and Main Street. In 1814 Caleb Morse moved to what is now Oneida Lake from Rahway Township and laid out a town square near the present day intersection of Easton Road and Main Street. On November 15, 1824 David Levy purchased land adjacent to Morse's townsquare from him for $2 per acre. Development of Ringwood began with purchase of additional land by Levy in 1827-28 totaling . On January 1, 1922, Burlington County voters passed a resolution authorizing creation of a borough within its borders with an initial population of 5,000 citizens. The new borough was created on April 14th 1923 when Rahway Township was divided into two sections: Rahway North andRahway South. Ringwood became one of the original municipalities within Burlington County upon its establishment. According to the 2016 Census Bureau report "Burlington County - Place Profile", ringwoods median household income is $115K while their poverty rate is 11%. Males have a median income of $60K versus $35K for females; their poverty rate stands at 16%. Additionally according to this report they are home to “the most diverse community” as well as being “one of only three places in Burlington County where all races make up more than 50% Of The Population”

Ringwood, New Jersey is a small town in Union County, New Jersey. The population was 973 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark– Passaic metropolitan area. Ringwood was first settled in 1764 by Irish immigrants who named their community Ringsborough after their home country. The name "Ringsborough" was anglicized to Ringwood in 1787 when John Ringwald purchased land there from Samuel Dixson for $1,000. The town's first school opened in 1814 and it became an educational center for rural Union County and parts of Essex County until it closed its doors in 1973. Today, Ringwood is home to a small library and a few businesses including a post office and an ice cream parlor. The mayor is Edwin Fenton who also serves as recorder-treasurer and has held that position since 2006. Ringwood's rich history can be found throughout its streets, squares, churches, schools and more! The first European to visit Ringwood was a Dutchman, Hendrick de Valk, in 1624. He named the settlement after his friend and mentor, Sir Richard Coltman of Nottinghamshire. The area that now includes Ringwood was part of the Susquehanna River valley until the start of the eighteenth century when it became part of New Jersey. In 1781, during the American Revolutionary War,Ringwood was captured by British forces under General George Washington. The town's cannons were taken down and used as artillery against Fort Mercer in Philadelphia. After the war ended, Ringwood reverted to its original name: Ringwood Township. In 1814, Ringwood had a population of 100 people and is credited with becoming "the most populous township in New Jersey."
