The industry declined during the 1870s and 1880s due to competition from TEXTILE INDUSTRIES SELLING IN EUROPE (TIES) and other countries. However, after 1890 TIES began to decline as well, leading to a resurgence of the textile industry in RidgewOOD during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During this time, there were several significant changes that occurred in Ridgewood: -In 1892, John Fenton donated land to be used as a park; this park is now known as Ridgewood Park. -In 1899, Mayor Edward J. Payne established The Citizens Committee on Mental Health which lobbied for better mental health facilities in town; these facilities eventually became known as Ridgewood Psychiatric Institute. -In 1912, The Municipal Court Building was built; this building is now used as headquarters for the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. -In 1915, First Lady Alice Paul opened her home at 222 Ridge Road; this home is still active today and has been occupied by various dignitaries such as Presidents George H.W Bush and Bill Clinton

In 1824, James Kapp donated land at East 38th Street and Third Avenue which became RidgewOOD Park; now one of New York City's most popular tourist destinations with its mansions dating back to the early 1800s still being used as residences today (an example is President Donald Trump's own Upper West Side penthouse). During World War II much activity took place at nearby factories like Ford Motor Company and PPG Industries (now Arista Networks) which employed thousands of Americans during that time period
Ridgewood was formed on August 14, 1765 by the merger of two small villages: Ridgewood and Parkwood. It was named for General James Ridgeway, who had led the American Revolutionary War. The town became an agricultural center in the 1800s and developed into a bedroom community for New York City.
