The original Dutch settlers also came here soon after although their names are not mentioned until about 1802 when Dirck Hendricksen became sheriff of Middlesex County and decided to rename all of New Jersey's townships after places in England including those aforementioned grants - including Ridgewood which he picked as an initialism for "Ridgeway". One of Hicks' successors as sheriff was James Cady who served from 1811-1815; however it wasn't until 1832 when John Pemberton assumed office that township organization took place with Pemberton appointing Samuel Wigglesworth as first Supervisor/Tax Collector/ingressman for Ridgewood Township. That same year Wigglesworth also purchased a lot at present day Spring Lane for $2,000 which became known as Wigglesworth Place starting right away due to its strategic location just across Ridge Road from all three branches of government - courthouse, jail & post office - making it easily accessible for township residents without having to leave their home or go into Setauket Township or Newark City proper where services were provided by various public officials within walking distance including private citizens like physicians & undertakers assisting these professionals!
