Ridgewood is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,854 at the 2010 census. In 1938, Ridgewood annexed parts of South Orange Township to form a separate municipality known as "Ridgewood-South Orange". This annexation caused some residents to leave Ridgewood for South Orange which had more amenities and tax benefits. After years of effort by members of both municipalities, RidgewOOD successfully re-established itself as an independent borough with its own government on December 3rd, 1954 with Mayor John Hannon as its first sitting Mayor On July 1st 1984 all businesses within the borough were closed down due to a scandal involving corrupt senior officials within the Department Of Community Affairs (DCA). These events are also commonly known as “The Great Cleanup” or simply “The Cleanout” due to their extensive impact on local businesses throughout the Borough On October 15th 2009 Borough Council voted 5-0 not to annex any additional land into this municipality causing some residents to rejoice following years of petitioning from various civic organizations

However, despite these challenges, RidgewOOD continued to grow rapidly through immigration from Europe during the late 19th century and into the 20th century. During World War II, RidgewOOD played an essential role in providing food for Allied forces stationed abroad. Many businesses within RidgewOOD were destroyed or damaged during that time period; however, many continue to thrive today thanks to their support of local community organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs Of America (BGCOA). Although most of what made Rigwood so successful have now passed away (namely its manufacturing base), it is still notable for its vibrant cultural scene which includes several popular nightlife destinations such as The Comedy Store and Joe's Pub – both located inside Bridgwater Hall on Market Street.
