The Ridgewood Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1892. The first rifle match took place on October 25, 1892. The club held its first pistol match on November 3, 1892. In 1893, the club formed a shooting team which won the state championships in 1895 and 1896. In 1897, the Ridgewood Rifle and Pistol Club purchased their own rifles and pistols from Wm. Fenton Company of Newark, NJ. In 1902-1903, rifle matches were held at Pleasantville Park with a field of 100 yards; handguns were allowed to be used for competition only after 1903. In 1909-1910 the NRA organized the New Jersey State Championship Tournament at Ridgewood Arsenal where rifles could be fired only with revolvers that had been provided by NRA member John Hirschfeld of Camden NJ who also supplied ammo for use in these matches. From 1911 through 1915 NRA members conducted annual tournaments at various gun ranges throughout New Jersey during which handguns could be used only for target practice and not for competition or warfare as is now allowed under state law . These events are still being held today including this year’s tournament taking place at Midland Hills Rifle Range located in Monmouth County . Rifle matches were discontinued beginning in 1916 due to World War I although they continued sporadically until 1920 when they were finally discontinued altogether due to Gun Control Act regulations promulgated by then President Woodrow Wilson
Ridgewood is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Atlantic Coast and around Mount Holly Township. The Ridgewood area was first settled by English colonists in 1683 as part of Perth Amboy Township. The Ridgewood ZIP code (07035) covers most of the borough and includes some of its older neighborhoods such as Allendale and Tinton Falls. In recent years, Ridgewood has become one of the fastest-growing suburbs in New Jersey, with growth rate reported as high as 12% per year for portions of its borders with Paramus and Hackensack. According to the United States Census Bureau, Ridgewood has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 4,955 people, 1,711 households, and 1,403 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3,662/square mile (1,362/km²). There were 2,815 housing units at an average densityof 1,521/sq mile (580/km²). The racial makeup ofridgewood was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; <0% Pacific Islander; <0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or LatinoOf any race were 2%. There are several contributing factors to Borough growth: strong community involvement through organizations such as Rotary Club “South Hills” golf course association ; professional development opportunities available through businesses including technology start-ups like LinkedIn which relocated from Newark Terminal District to ridgwood in 2009 ; unrestricted access to interstate highways which have fostered job growth along I-95 corridor connecting NJ Transit's Camden terminus eastward

Ridgewood was founded in 1764 by the merger of two villages, Ridgewood on the north shore of the Hackensack River and West Milford on the west side. The name Ridgewood derives from Dutch words meaning “flatwoods” and “woodland.” One theory is that because ridges of trees rise along both banks of the river, Ridgewood resembled a wooded area. Another theory suggests that because there were few trees in what is now Ridgewood, it was called an open field. In 1834, portions of West Milford were annexed to Ridgewood and the name was changed to Ridgewood Township. In 1868, Ridgefield Township was formed from portions of Ridgewood Township and RidgewOOD became a borough in 1914. The population reached 4,500 in 1950 and since then has grown slowly but steadily according to Census data. The first settler at what is now Ridgewood arrived in 1764 when George Washington Parke arrived with his family from England as part of an expedition searching for a new home for Americans after their victory at Saratoga battlefields in 1777. After arriving in New Jersey he built a farmstead near today’s intersection of Orange Boulevard and Cedar Street (now known as Livingston Avenue) which he named Mount Pleasant after his plantation located about three miles away on Moradie Island off the Delaware coast where he had acquired land during his exile from England following the Stamp Act rioting of 1665. There are several places where Washington landmarks can be found such as Mount Vernon House (now occupied by Princeton University), White House (now occupied by President Donald Trump), Capitol Hill Cemetery, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Roadhouse, Fort Cumberland national Monument etcetera among others. In 1774 Captain John Dennistone commanded forces under General Forbes during the Battle ofoway which resulted in British capture of Philadelphia including Crown Prince Frederick and many high-ranking military personnel including Major General John Howe who later served as Governor General America under King George III until his death at Monmouth Junction on October 14th that year while campaigning against rebels led by Benedict Arnold who had earlier been captured at Saratoga Bridge junction on September 24th). The Ridgewood neighborhood in New Jersey was first settled in the early 17th century. It was originally called Newtown, but was renamed Ridgewood after Sir John Ridgeway, a member of Parliament from Middlesex County. The area that is now Ridgewood was first part of what is now Princeton Township and then part of West Princeton Township. The township was consolidated with East Princeton Township on April 14, 1847.
