In 1916, Raymond Longstreet founded the first airgun manufacturing company in Ridgewood. The company prospered for many years until it was destroyed by fire in 1954. However, the story of Ridgewood's airguns is not only long but also full of innovation and success. In 1911, J.B. Earle designed an airgun that became known as the "Big John". This rifle featured a large bore that allowed users to hit targets distances up to 300 yards with ease. The Big John was so successful that Earle began producing additional models at his own expense until he sold his business to George Weiser in 1925. Weiser continued production of the Big John Airgun until 1970 when it was discontinued due to increased competition from other manufacturers. The most significant contribution of Earle's Big John Airgun is its ability to shoot pellets instead of rounds like most rifles at this time. Pellets were an early form of ammunition and were very popular because they were less likely to catch on fire or cause accidental damage when fired into fleshy targets. These days, pellets are still used extensively for airguns because they're reliable and accurate- even against tough targets such as squirrels! In 1937, Julius Kapp created what would become known as the "Kapp" Air Gun- one of the earliest self-loading airguns available on the market today! Using a rotary action similar to those found on car door handles today,the Kapp Air Gun offered shooters easy access to pellet ammunition while keeping their firearms' accuracy top notch! After seeing great success with his Kapp Air Gun during World War II (see below), Julius Kapp returned to business and produced new models throughout the 1950s until he retired in 1960; this left behind a lasting legacy within Ridgewood's history!

Ridgewood is a borough in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. Ridgewood is located along the Delaware River and has a total area of . It was named for Sir John Ridgeway (1686-1750), an English landowner and Revolutionary War officer who contributed to the development of Western Pennsylvania. In 1795, James Kapp set up a ferry service from Camden to Wilmington on the Delaware River. In 1812, he founded Kapp's Ferry Company which became known as Kapp's Ferry Corporation. In 1837, John Putnam built a mill on what is now River Road in Ridgewood which became one of the largest textile mills in America. The company continued to operate until it closed its doors in 1930. The first black person to live in Ridgewood was Sarah Coleman who moved there from Newark in 1881. She married Elijah Carney and became known as Mrs. Elijah Carney II after moving out of RidgewOOD into her own home near Center Ridge Plaza shopping center on Avenue U and West Trenton Avenue in 1932. Coleman died in 1984 at age 92; her husband passed away two years later at age 96. Mrs Eleanor Sharpe lived next door from 1922-1960 when she married Julius "Jimmy" Payson Jr., son of Jimmy Payson Sr., owner of several small businesses including The Star-Ledger grocery store which operated adjacent to MsSharpe's house until it burned down on December 15th, 1957 (the building still stands). There were no African Americans living permanently or densely inside Borough Limits until after integration by then Mayor Frank Rizzo and Councilman Nicholas Sacco during their term starting January 1st 1969 through November 30th 1971 - after which all residents were required by law to live within Borough Boundaries while they awaited voting rights that would be granted them according to borough policies at that time RidgewOODs history goes back even further than this however with early Settlers such as Drury Tavern Associates developer George Washington Carver dating back over 250 years! George Washington Carver settled his family hereabouts circa 1800AD & his descendants have lived here continuously ever since (& some are still living!).
