Gunlights were first used in Ridgefield, New Jersey on October 10, 1846. The first gun light was a battery of three 6-inch searchlights mounted on the roof of a barn. The guns were set to work in an observation role during the American Revolutionary War. The use of gun lights continued until around 1910 when they were replaced by gas lamps. Since then, various advances have been made in manufacturing and design for handgungunlight systems. Today’s designs feature bright LED lighting technology which ensures clear visibility at all times; this allows officers to see their target clearly regardless of darkness or smoke cover present within their vicinity
