Ridgefield is a town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,611 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the eight towns in Union County and part of the Bergen- Passaic Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ridgefield is located on both sides of the Hackensack River, bordered by West Milford to the north and east; Paramus to the south; and Teaneck to the west. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ridgefield were Dutch traders who established a trading post on land that now includes much of what today's town stands for. In 1675, English colonists arrived as well and began developing land around what is now Ridgefield with help from settlers from New York City. The first recorded sale of property in present-day Ridgefield took place on October 14, 1751 when James Prentice sold 1/4 acre (0.15 km²) of land near modern day Broadway and Bound Brook Road for $220 sterling (about $1,500 U.S.). This early development helped give Ridgefield its name - ridge meaning "hill" or "stead". In 1814, when section 8 of Township 2 was formed from parts of four other townships due to an amalgamation process described as "the most perfect supervision that could be desired", one vote among all township voters resulted in choosing Ridgefield as its representative on a new board appointed by Governor Nicholas Trumbull. At that time there were only 10 residents living within Township 2 borders - 5 men and 5 women - making it one of the few areas where representation was not based upon population size alone. On December 6, 1814, following passage by Assembly Bill No. 238 (dated November 4), which provided for township organization by gender rather than population size: “Provided further That no person shall hold any office or contract under this township unless he has been duly elected thereto by majority vote at an election held herein before mentioned; but no person appointed otherwise than pursuant to this act shall hold any office until his term expires or until such removal as may be ordered by virtue thereof” On February 9th following passage by Assembly Bill No. 271 (dated May 22nd), which increased voting privileges for single males above 21 years old: “And Be it enactedby these presents That every male over 21 years old who shall have resided therein continuously for 3 months next preceding such election shall have a right to vote without being required to come into possession of real estate” voter turnout among those aged 25-34 increased from 54% in 1814 TO 73% IN 1860 When including those age 35-44 inclusive voter turnout peaked at 83% in 1960 After including those age 45+ voter turnout decreased back down below 50%. Voter Turnout also decreases when does not include citizens over 65 years old In order for citizens over 65 years old they must provide their own ballot box

In 1978, Browning introduced its own version of an AR-style rifle called the Browning BAR . Ridgefield is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 31,521 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Ridge family of early settlers. Ridgefield lies on the border of Middlesex and Sussex counties and straddles the Delaware River between them. As a result, it has a long history as an important crossroads for trade and transportation. In 1868, Ridgefield became part of Haddon Heights Township after that township was formed from parts of Middlesex and Sussex Counties. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ridgefield were the Ridge Family in 1764 who settled near present-day University Park on the west bank of the Delaware River. George Washington's brother-in-law, Thomas Jefferson, also moved to this area around 1770; he purchased land along what is now Main Street from Nicholas Duchamps (a relative of Benjamin Franklin). By 1800 there were about twenty families living in or near what is now Ridgefield when surveyors laid out Springfield Township which included most of today's Ridgewood section of suburban Mount Holly Township east of Interstate 95 and portions of Princeton Borough northwest of I-95. In 1868, Haddon Heights Township was created from parts of Middlesex and Sussex Counties when those two townships merged to form Middlesex County. While Haddon Heights had some remnants of English culture such as its small parish church (St John's), most people here spoke Dutch or German until they were displaced by waves OF Italian immigrants during World War II. Ridgefield experienced significant growth during World War II with many American soldiers returning home to find their homes Heywardowned - homes built before 1945 are still called "Heywardown" even though they have been demolished - leaving many working class residentsbehind post–war high school students who used their homes as barracks during wartime shortages caused by production quotas set by President Harry S Truman following World War II. After hostilities ended in 1945, many Americans returned home but left their homes behind not only because they had no need for them but also because postwar housing regulations made it difficult for them to keep up with changes taking place throughout much larger areas like Newark and Camden that had become more affluent due to new industrialization leading to rising social tensions typical of America at this time period
Ridgefield was first settled in the early 17th century by Dutch and English colonists. The area that is now Ridgefield was part of the Monmouth County borough of Hackensack until 1867, when it became a part of Middlesex County. In 1894, Ridgefield became a township in Middlesex County and in 1912, it became a city.
