Ridgefield Park is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 20,873 at the 2010 census. Ridgefield Park was formed on April 1, 1871 from portions of Bridgewater Township. On December 12, 1916, it became a city under the name of Princeton Junction. On July 16, 1931 it became a borough and on May 5, 1954 it became a town again. It was renamed to Ridgefield Park on November 14, 1984. Borough status was granted to the town by an act of the New Jersey Legislature pursuant to suspension of rules due to the mayoral election that year. The township had been without borough status since January 1, 2009 when Princeton Junction achieved city status and all residents were re-elected as mayors; however,-the former mayors continued to serve as members of the township's board of commissioners until their terms expired on January 1st, 2011 According to the 2010 Census[1], there are 20,873 people living in Ridgefield Park Township (13% urban and 27% rural). Of these residents (14%, or 3361 individuals), 11 percent identify as being Black or African American (non-Hispanic black or African Americans make up 13% of all residents), while 57 percent identify as white alone or Hispanic/Latino (of any race) . Among those who identify as white alone or Hispanic/Latino only (4%, or 149 individuals), 82 percent say they are Protestant and only 8 percent claim no religious affiliation . The remaining 15 percent report either being unaffiliated with any religion (27%) or identifying themselves primarily with another race/ethnicity (29%). According to 2000 Census estimates[2], 23% of Ridgefield Park's population is age 65 years and over; this number rises To 31%. There are also 7 percentage points more females than males in this community.[3]

Ridgefield Park is a small borough located in northwestern New Jersey, United States. The population was 6,611 at the 2010 census. It was formed from part of Rahway Township on May 3, 1871, and named for Ridgefield Farmstead in Springfield Township which had been annexed by Rahway in 1868. The first settlers to Ridgefield were farmers who arrived from Connecticut early in the 1800s. They slowly developed a small town with a few shops and taverns until the early 1900s when railroads came through and changed everything. The subdivision of Ridgefield Park began as a farming community with large homes clustered around an agricultural center which remain today. The name Ridgefield Park comes from two farms that once graced its borders: Ridgefields (now part of Union City) in western Rahway County and Farmington Road in eastern Springfield Township. By 1919, only 2% of the population lived within 5 miles of any other town or village in Mercer County while over 60% resided within 10 miles of either Newark or PlainFIELD (the two largest cities in Mercer County). During World War II many people moved to ridge field park because they could not find jobs elsewhere due to the rationing program known as GAP which lasted until 1945. Many businesses closed during this time including several banks which left their employees without jobs but still retain some relics such as bank vault doors that can be seen today among other pieces of architecture found throughout the borough including law firms and clinics. In 1951, after years of planning by then-Mayor John Jakes, new housing developments were built on both ends of Haddon Avenue giving rise to what is now known as Hawthorne Village on the south side while Ridgefield Park proper continued to grow along Battle Road on the north side becoming one of NJ's most heavily populated communities by 1970 with over 12 square miles under development! In 2007, followingyearsof decline caused by oil spills and budget cuts federal funding has helped spur renewed development including several high-rise condos being built just off Haddon Avenue near where Route 9 intersects Route 202 providing access to all sorts of shoppingMallandle Place State College
