Ridgefield Park straddles two municipalities - Asbury Park to the north and Middletown to the south - but it functions as its own municipality with its own government and schools. The township which surrounds Ridgefield Park also has its own government with its own schools - both public and private - while Neptune Townshipussia has no official connection to ridgefields park whatsoever other than being adjacent to it on both sides of Route 23A (the main road that runs through town). The town boundaries are: Asbury Park on the east; Middletown on the west; Neptune Township on the south; Bellmawr onshore across Long Beach River from Asbury Park; Shorehampton Peninsula just beyond Bellmawr into Monmouth County
