The history of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey dates back to the early 1800s. The town was founded on a small parcel of land near what is now Ridgefield Village. The first settlers in Ridgefield Park were farmers who grew corn and beans. By 1814, the population had reached seventy-five people. In 1824, Ridgefield Park became a township and in 1828, it became a city. The first mayor of Ridgefield Park was John Smeaton. In 1868, the city annexed the village of Easton which added another hundred residents to the city. By 1880, there were over two thousand people living in Ridgefield Park. during this time period, gun targets emerged as an important industry in Ridgefield Park because guns were used for hunting and target practice by citizens and business owners alike. Gun targets were also used for instruction in how to shoot at targets outdoors by local schoolchildren and professionals such as rifle shooters from around New York City who would come to visit their friends in town during championship season. In 1899, Newark got its own city government which led to gun target production moving out of Ridgefield Park into Newark too whereupon it continued until 1942 when gun manufacturing was brought back under state control following World War II restrictions on firearms due to wartime shortages. After that point until today there has been very little output from the old factories other than occasional exhibitions or souvenirs being produced by collectors

In that fight, Union troops led by General Philip Sheridan attacked Confederate troops under General John Buford at North Bridge. The Union forces were successful in capturing most of the Confederate force and driving them back across the bridge. However, a group of Confederate soldiers managed to escape across the bridge and join up with their allies on the other side. This group was able to drive off the Union forces and capture several cannons before being driven back into town.

In 1776, Loyalist General John Brown's forces destroyed a French military post at Fort Stanwix (now known as Fort Christie) in what became known as the Battle of Ridgefield Park. This event helped start the American Revolution by rallying support against British tyranny. From 1776-1783, Ridgefield Park was under British occupation until it was liberated by Continental troops under George Washington during the War for Independence. In 1868, Ridgefield Park became part of Bergen County when it was split off from Middlesex County. At that time it had a population of just 6 people; today it has over 31,491 residents within its borders! One reason why this municipality has been so successful over the years is because its infrastructure has always been excellent: its water system dates back to 1872 and its sewerage system went into full operation in 1951! truly an innovative municipal decision at that time! One thing that makes Ridgefield so unique are all of its forests – home to more than 100 different trees! These acres provide not only environmental benefits but also generate income through lumber sales; “the park’s biggest employer” since 1975 according to government records! Today there are many popular activities available within our boundaries including hiking/biking/swimming/dancing/horseback Riding etc.; making Ridgefields an especially popular destination for family funtime events like 4H or Poconosfestivals each summer!
Ridgefield Park was founded in 1868 by George Ridgefield and his wife, Harriet. The acreage for the park was donated by Mr. and Mrs. John Dorney, who also donated the land for Easton Township. In 1916, Ridgefield Park became a public school district.
