After much debate between different factions within society about what should be done with this large amount of unused land , Congress passed legislation known as "The National Schoolhouse Plan" which allocated $25 million dollars towards building approximately 500 new schools across America in order to address issues such as racial segregation A number of people within Ridgefeldt Park objected especially since most homes there were built prior to 1950 which made redevelopment difficult . However after years of community engagement led by Mayor Vincent Viola and Borough Councilman Angelo Torresani , those objections were overruled and permission was given for developers To tear down existing homes and build new homes on top while preserving historic aspects such as brick pavements found throughout the neighborhood Today's ridge field park began growing when developer Peter Schwab purchased 640 acres adjacent to Spring Gardens Racecourse around 1980s While there weren't any original plans for development within the gated community itself Schwab instead created Sunrise Terrace which included tennis courts, pools & Spa tubs access driveways etc .. Sunrise Terrace eventually morphed into what we know today with extensive gardens complete with ponds water features mature trees residences & businesses well appointed shops including several restaurants along with an extensive shopping mall
