NRA’s History Center has chronicled the weapons used by citizens in Red Bank during various eras, from its humble beginnings as a farming hamlet to the current era of gun safety and regulation. One of the earliest pistols used in Red Bank was a British model named The Rambler. This gun was made famous by Rifleman John Brownlee who shot an Indian chief named DeSoto while on horseback near West Point during the American Civil War. Brownlee’s capture of DeSoto’s horse led to his fame and notoriety, which inspired other leaders throughout America to arm themselves for self-defense. Gunownership increased among farmers and others in Red Bank after it became known as a crossroads for trade between New York and Philadelphia. Gunsmiths established their businesses here, servicing customers from both cities. Ammunition selection also grew after rifle ammunition became available at local stores. The first magazine-fed rifles were created here, allowing residents to fire rounds continuously without having to reload frequently. It made it illegal for anyone under 18 years of age to possess any rifle or shotgun without having a licensed gun dealer provide them with safety instructions. Red Banks downtown area is home to several large banks and other financial institutions as well as a variety of retail businesses including clothing stores and department stores. In addition to its downtown areas there are several agglomerations located throughout the borough which include: Ridgewood (the largest), North Brunswick (the second largest), East Brunswick (the third largest) and South Brunswick (the smallest). These communities have their own schools and police departments with their own shopping malls which provide grocery stores, restaurants and other services unique to each community. The economy of Red Bank has been characterized by manufacturing since its incorporation into Middlesex County over 100 years ago; however today much of the industry has moved away from production towards services such as healthcare or logistics. Many factories closed down during the economic recession but have reopened since then due to new investment or increased demand from outside companies.

The first buildings were erected here around 1734-35, and by 1800 the township had a population of about 100 people! In 1830, Elizabethtown became an independent municipality and soon after began to attract German immigrants who desired some of the same opportunities that English residents enjoyed. Many Germans who moved toElizabethtown turned their backs on their old homes back home and started anew - establishing businesses, starting families and building churches that still stand today! After years of growth and development from both municipalities – which culminated with the merger in 1928 – Red Bank quickly developed into one of NJ's most vibrant communities! Today, our thriving business district continues to enjoy high levels of success thanks to our supportive community spirit – which is why we continue to call Redbank home!
