Ramsey is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,368 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The first Europeans to reach what is now Ramsey were Dutch traders in 1624 and 1627 who named it "Nieuw Amsterdam" after their new city in Netherlands. In 1764, the English took over from the Dutch as masters of New Netherland and so this name change also applied to Ramsey which became Newark Township on November 3, 1764. In 1802, the Morris brothers bought 8 acres (3 ha) of land east of present-day Ramsey for $200 from John Stevens. They laid out a village called Morris Center on this property and opened it to public use on October 12, 1802. The Morristown Road Railroad reached Morris Center from Hackensack on December 10, 1852 giving people an opportunity to buy goods and services near their homes before it became a town center with its own post office. A Swedish immigrant named Lars Axelsson donated land for a Lutheran church in 1829 and built the first school building there in 1830; today's First United Methodist Church was dedicated in that year. A second school was built in 1835 by subscription and opened by Revd Samuel Morse along with many other local civic improvements during his tenure as pastor of Christ Episcopal Church across Broad Street from where the current town hall stands today (originally known as West Philadelphia Presbyterian Church). One early resident of Ramsey was Elisha Rockefeller who immigrated to America aboard USS Constitution under Captains Hutchinson and Champlin on July 24th,1825 when he was just 9 years old; he would later become one of Americas wealthiest men through his initiatvres into Standard Oil Company

Ramsey was founded in 1735 by John Ramsey. The town was named for John, the son of Sir George Ramsey, a wealthy landowner and political leader in New Jersey. John Ramsey's grandson, James Ramsey, donated land to the town for development. The first school opened in 1819. The United States Postal Service operated a post office in Ramsey from 1825 to 1865. In 1863, the Post Office moved to Princeton and remained there until 1967 when it relocated to Camden. In 1868, County Administrator Moses Cone purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land east of Ramsey for $8,000. This area became known as "Ramsey Park." The first shopping mall in New Jersey opened in Ramsey on July 21, 1984, calledwoods Mall. It was built on the site of an old farmhouse and served as the township's primary shopping center until its closure in 2001. Today, Ramseys borders on Camden and is home to several businesses including JCPenney; Best Buy; Macy's; Sears; Subway; KFC/Potato Head USA; Quality Inn & Suites Plus-Hilton Garden Inn
Ramsey was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 4,812 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Atlantic City and is bordered by Union Township to the south and East Brunswick Township to the north. The first bridge over the Raritan River was built in 1837 by George Ramsey and his brother James. The current bridge was built in 1935. In 1853, John Pemberton bought land near present-day Ramsey from Nicholas Coles. In 1868, Pemberton founded what would becomeAtlantic City with land he had purchased from Coles. By 1870, Ramsey had a population of 350 residents and was part of Atlantic City Borough. In 1896, Ramsey annexed East Brunswick Township to form a new municipality. In 1912, Ramseys merged into Atlantic City boroughhood which also included Glassboro and West Orange township).
