Ramsey, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 22,562 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton–Hudson metropolitan area. The first recorded mention of Ramsey comes from 12th century chronicler Roger de Somerville who called it "Ramerie". In 1701, John Woolridge and Peter Schermerhorn purchased land east of present-day Ramsey from the trustees of Bound Brook Township for £200. They named their place after George Washington's plantation on Mount Vernon Island in Virginia – Woolridge Manor (now Westwood Village), Schermerhorn Manor (now Eastwood Village), and Ramsey Hospitality Company House (now Northvale Plaza). In 1827, John A. MacLaughlin organized what would become the Township of Morris and constructed a gristmill on Mill Creek near present-day Allentown. In 1868, he donated land to form what became Ramseys Township; this township would be attached to Morris County in 1926. In 1911, local resident Julius Rosenwald donated 350 acres (160 hectares) along Lake Superior Boulevard to form Ramseys Park which served as an open space for community use until its acquisition by the municipality in 2003. In 1916, Ramsey played host to World War I Memorial Day Services at Our Lady's Catholic Church which were attended by over 30 thousand people from across America including President Woodrow Wilson and First Lady Alice Paul. The event was also streamed live online onto various websites throughout America that day. In 1899 James' widow donated land to establish the community's first school which became known as "Ramsey High School". 2) The original structure still stands today! With so much development happening around us over that time period – RAMSEY HIGH SCHOOL WASN’T THE ONLY SCHOOL TO USE SUCH BUSES! 4) And now we’ve reached our current point where technology has completely taken over!
