Princeton, New Jersey is a small town located in Princeton Township, Morris County, New Jersey. The township was formed on November 3, 1873 from parts of Monmouth and Atlantic Counties. In 1886, when Morris County was created within New Jersey along with Middlesex County*, Princeton became part of this new county. In 1905, Charles Fenton bought 1/4 mile (1 km) east of centerline on Old Trenton Road from Abram Dowlan for $527*. This tract became known as "Fenton's Alley" after Fenton himself* or his son-in-law Augustus de Forest (*1837-1912).
