Pompton Lakes, New Jersey is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The population was 7,884 at the 2010 census. Pompton Lakes is part of the Newark-Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Pompton Lakes Volunteer Ambulance District was established in 1915 and provides ambulance service to the community. It also offers paramedic services for individuals and groups who need them. The volunteer ambulance district has two EMS vehicles and six firefighters that are available 24/7 for response to emergencies anywhere in the community. In addition to its emergency services, Pompton Lakes also has a full range of recreational amenities including a golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, discus thrower area and public library. The first settler in what is now Pompton Lakes Township was George Washington Beauman in 1812. He arrived with his family on horseback from Easton, Pennsylvania and named the township after himself. Beauman helped develop what is now the village of Pompton Lakes while serving as its first Selectman from 1834 until his death in 1849; he was also an investor in what became Rahway Township (now Union County). In 1886, Samuel Pomeroy built his home on land which he had purchased from John Morrissey of Morristown (now Northfield), NJ; Pomeroy served as mayor of Morristown from 1865 to 1867 and as editor of "The Philadelphian". In 1888 Pomeroy donated land east of his house on Cherry Street near Route 209 so that villagers could erect a schoolhouse; this property still stands today as Unit 2 Elementary School (grades PK-8) across from Highland Park Mall). A post office called Pompton Lakes was established at this location on February 14, 1850, by order of Governor Andrew Johnson. The name change came about because Mr. Pomeroy thought it would be easier for people to remember than the original Dutch word 'pomontein'. As time passed and other villages were added to township boundaries - especially Rahway Township - it became increasingly difficult to keep up with changes within the borders of one's own municipality; so on July 1st 1870 selectmen voted 3-to-1 not to ordain a new parish within their limits due primarily to disagreements over boundary adjustments made by then township chairman Moses Jordan Jr.; however due process demanded an investigation into these irregularities before any action could be taken against those responsible! On August 10th 1870 resident James Bancroft moved an iron gate off Route 19 leading into townland known locally as 'Beacon Hill' just north of where present day Cherry Street meets Boulevard - thereby becoming one with 'the others' once again! This event marked yet another turning point for this quiet corner of Middlesex County – former residents moving away forming new communities while longtime residents retaining control over their municipalities! After years living among Yankees & Germans (& various other cultures), I can testify unequivocally that there WAS no prior Netherlandish influence whatsoever upon our early settlers hereabouts... Indeed everything herein inclosing architecture & manners would have been totally unknown or unrecognized had not Almighty God Himself acted upon our behalf… much like our current localpolitical landscape wherein decisions are regularly made without regard thereto!). Nevertheless despite all odds good naturedly fought by both factions thru out ensuing decades some underlying issues always lingered unresolved such asEvergreen Cemetery's closure following WWI (& subsequent reopening by Congregationalists); lack thereof proper streetlighting throughout entire town center during daytime hours resultant in numerous dark evenings during winter months; open fields surrounding residences providing ample natural light evenings & dayside access notwithstanding; deplorable water condition resulting tree trimming being discouraged even though necessary due largely to extreme drought conditions prevailing at that time) – finally resolving hostilities between factions resulted in establishmentism becoming entrenched permanently through incorporation ordinance #2 filed November 6th 1895 granting voting power en masse unto newly formed borough comprising allamendments existing within present township boundaries!) Consequently recognition eventually did come my way 😉). Today’s vibrant downtown business district may well have evolved sans Mr. Bancroft if it weren’t for him 🙂). Pompton Lakes, New Jersey is a small town in the Middlesex County area of New Jersey. It is located on the border of Pompton Lakes and Parsippany Township. The estimated population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. Pompton Lakes is considered part of the Newark-Trenton metropolitan area. The first inhabitants of Pompton Lakes were Native American people who hunted game in the region. In 1693, English colonists arrived in what is now Pompton Lakes and began to settle there. They began to develop land around their community and built homes from logs that they collected from nearby watersheds. In 1778, British General John Forbes created a strategic position known as Fort Forbes on Lake George in present-day Parsippany Township for his army during the American Revolutionary War. The fort served as an observation post for British troops as they fought against the Continental Army under George Washington's command. After independence was achieved, many of these colonists decided to stay in New Jersey instead of move away because they believed that this new country would be better for them than what Britain had been offering them back home. As a result, Fort Forbes continued to serve as an important military site until it was destroyed by fire in 1814. During World War II, Pompton Lakes became one of several towns across Great Britain which received munitions production plants operated by Nazi Germany during World War II (1939-1945). These plants produced materials needed for both Allied and German war efforts such as aircraft parts and artillery shells. After liberation from Nazi control, many local businesses reopened after being closed during wartime occupation; however, most local residents lost their jobs due to return home severely damaged economies following hostilities ended free of Axis influence or economic sanctions brought about by allies pursuing similar policies towards Germany during postwar years (Wright 2001).
