However, it reverted back to its village form after just 10 years when another amendment was passed giving cities more autonomy within their districts. Today's Pompton Lakes has evolved into one of northern New Jersey's most diverse communities with over 60 ancestries represented among its 7,000 residents - including 11% African American - making it one of America's fastest-growing towns for diversity since 2000 census figures showed Latinos constituted 20% of all U.S.-born citizens living in towns with populations over 25,000people! A recent study by Rutgers University found that nearly half (44%)of current students identify themselves as ethnically Muslim or Arab American; 31% identify themselves as Catholic; 24% identify themselves as Protestant; while 6% self-identify solely as Jewish or IslamicAmerican according to Census data from 2016). In terms of race/ethnicity alone – this percentage jumps up to almost 50% among current students who report attending colleges or universities where Islam is both an official religion (#27%),[and] also majority dominant (#41%)among student body members enrolled fulltime’degree at these institutions’ campuses across America...the percentage minority student enrollment increases quickly from about 12 percent today (2013) through 27 percent next year’s estimate,[when]minority representation reaches 40 percent by 2021...What we are seeing here across America is not unique just in our hometown but throughout rural areas too where there continues significant growth rates for various racial minorities

Pompton Lakes was founded in 1788 by John Pompton and his wife, Sarah. The original land for the community was donated by Sir Nicholas Morison. The Pomptons built a log cabin on what is now their property and raised crops until 1800 when they moved to a gristmill on the river. In 1814, the Pomptons purchased 2,000 acres of land from Nicholas Morison and began to build a large home which they called "The Mansion". They also developed a small town around their home which became known as Pompton Lakes.
