Point Pleasant is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,587 at the 2010 census. Point Pleasant was formed from the merger of two smaller towns: Easton and West Egg Harbor Township. The name "Point Pleasant" comes from the nearby point on Long Island that served as an early trading center for the region. The original settlers in Point Pleasant were German Protestants who arrived in 1764. They founded a gristmill and built a small log cabin near what is now Market Street. In 1824, they moved to what is now Roundabout Road and erected a log church which still stands today. In 1828, they voted to become part of Mercer County and organized as a town under the name of "Easton." That same year, they voted to rename their settlement "West Egg Harbor Township". In 1873, the township became part of New Jersey when it was created as part of the newly created state of New Jersey. Point Pleasant continued to be governed by its own Mayor and Board of Trustees until 1949; when it became part of Township government under the new system established in New Jersey by law. According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau, Point Pleasant had a total population of 2,587; including 746 (or 10%) who lived below poverty line. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96 males age 18 and over

Point Pleasant, New Jersey is a township in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the township's population was 17,853. It was founded on December 26, 1798 by Captain John Stevens and his lieutenant Colonel George Washington as part of the first attempt at forming a barrier between Pennsylvania and New York. The name derived from "Pleasant Valley" which lay to the east of the town site. Point Pleasant was named for Lieutenant Colonel George Washington who led an expedition through this area in 1798 seeking supplies for American forces campaigns in Pennsylvania and Ohio. In 1824 Point Pleasant became part of Trenton Township; it reverted to Mercer County control when that township was merged into Burlington Township on February 1, 1911. The townships of West Amboy and East Amboy were formed from portions of Pleasant Valley on May 6, 1854 prior to its merger into Trenton Township - also creating what is now South Bergen Borough within NJ Transit's Monmouth County Line service region. The western boundary of Point Pleasant has been variably defined since its founding; today it runs along Delaware Avenue (now US 1) north past Clearwater Lakes Park before turning eastward along Route 9W which connects with I-95 just south of Glassboro; Manor Road formerly served as its eastern boundary despite being several miles wide between Manor Road and Route 9W due to flooding caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
The town of Point Pleasant was founded in 1764 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his wife, Anne. The Conte family had a strong presence in the area for generations, and their home is still standing today. In 1832, Point Pleasant became a part of New Jersey. In 1951, it was renamed to its current name - Point Pleasant Township.
