The Point Pleasant Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was organized on November 5, 1912 as the “Second New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club” with the express purpose of maintaining proficiency in shooting at all levels. The club met each month at the old rifle range on Cedar Street until it moved to its present location in 1916. In 1918, the club purchased a new arsenal built by W.M. Henson & Sons for $2,500 and began using it for target practice and pistol matches. In 1924, members of the club petitioned for a park in which they could exercise their rights to use the range free of charge; this request was granted two years later. On October 9, 1928, PPG Corporation donated land at Seventh Avenue and Walnut Street in Point Pleasant Township for use as a rifle range; membership in the club became voluntary after that date. Membership dues were $5 per year from 1945 through 1978 when they were raised to $10 per year due to inflation (now $16). In 1951, members voted to change the name of the club from “Second New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club” to “Point Pleasant Rifle Association” after seeing an advertisement placed in local newspapers depicting a rifle match between two clubs from different states where one team had American made rifles while the other team had German made rifles (the posters also showed handguns being fired). The decision was based on suggestions made by vice president Walter Kapp who said that such an association would help promote cross-cultural understanding among NRA members across state lines. That same year, PPG Corporation donated another piece of property located at Seventh Avenue and Walnut Street - this time for use as a pistol range; membership became voluntary after that date too (now $16). Although originally affiliated with Goudy County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary No. 108 detachment #1 during World War II – which included participation in target shooting competitions sanctioned by both organizations – Point Pleasant Rifle Association severed all affiliations with sheriff's department circa 1948 following disagreements over firearms regulation within NRA member ranks during that era (euphemistically called "policy changes"). With exception of badge requirements currently pertaining to law enforcement officers working out of school zones or while huntingduring deer season - all other regulations remain unchanged today since then including daily attendance at meetings throughout each calendar year regardless of whether or not one is actively attending those meetings – except perhaps occasional special events like annual muzzleloading show or summer camping trip fundraiser etc.; regular NRA meeting schedules have been uninterrupted since then providing ample opportunity for open discussion about any issues our members may be experiencing outside those efforts as well! Since becoming an organization dedicated exclusively to Target Shooting there has never been any question or dispute about our mission statement: To maintain proficiency through individual instruction/meeting/training opportunities only conducted under cover of NRA auspices! Point Pleasant, New Jersey is a small, rural town located in Sussex County, New Jersey. The population was 1,992 at the 2010 census. Point Pleasant is part of the Newark-Newark metropolitan area. The Town of Point Pleasant was founded on December 10, 1764 by Colonel John Stevens and his men as a post on the Delaware River. The name reference to a high point in the town that overlooked both Newark and Elizabethtown (now Elizabeth). In 1845 Point Pleasant became an incorporated village when it joined the larger township of Newark. In 1874 Pointpleasant annexed what were then sections ofElizabethtown and Montclair Township. At that time its population was 2,500 people; however it had only 1,000 residents when it became an independent village again in 1984 due to the merger of those two townships into Newark. During World War II Point Pleasant served as a military airfield known as "Bald Eagle" which operated from 1941 to 1945. The property now includes portions of both Elizabethtown and Montclair Townships while still remaining used for military purposes today by Isreal Air Force Base NJMC (Newark Municipal Airport). As part of this activity three runways are still visible: runway 27/27A is single use while RWY 28/36 are multi-use with one surface being a gravel surface for Instrument Flight Procedures; also available is runway 09/27 which has been repaved after failure during Hurricane Sandy in 2012

Point Pleasant was first settled in 1692 by Dutch farmers. The area was part of the British colony of New Jersey during the early 17th century. In 1763, the British defeated the French and their Indian allies in a series of battles at Saratoga. As a result, New Jersey became part of Great Britain. In 1776, Point Pleasant was burned by Continental Army soldiers as they retreated from Yorktown following the surrender of Cornwallis.
