Point Pleasant, New Jersey is a town located in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,692 at the 2010 census. As of the 2016 update, Point Pleasant had 12 homicides and 6 suicides. The first gun sights were installed in Point Pleasant by Colonel John Cushing on July 8, 1775. The gunsights were designed to provide precision fire for British troops moving through the township during the American Revolution. Throughout its history Point Pleasant has been home to many businesses that have helped contribute to its economy - such as Berger's Department Store (founded 1892), Star-Kist Supermarket (1898), and Sears Roebuck & Co.'s department store (1914). In recent years Point Pleasant has become known for its annual "Gun Show" which features local manufacturers and sellers selling firearms and ammo.

In 1835, Point Pleasant was founded by General John Sullivan and his wife, Elizabeth. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Hudson River and its natural resources. In 1849, Point Pleasant became a borough. In 1895, Point Pleasant annexed the neighboring town of Medford.
Point Pleasant is a small town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Point Pleasant was Abraham Lincoln who arrived there in 1784. Point Pleasant was originally known as "Lincolnton." The name change came about because of the presence of a large Loyalist checkpoint on Old Trenton Road just south of present-day Point Pleasant Square. The first post office was established at Pointpleasant in 1812 and continued to be called Lincolnton until 1838 when it changed its name to Point Pleasant. In 1875, the town became an unincorporated community and ceased to exist as an entity until 1951 when it reappeared as a borough within the new municipality of Newark–Trenton. In 1957, due to growing competition from neighboring municipalities for tax dollars, Point Pleasant withdrew from Newark–Trenton and became an independent township once again with its own government and taxes. The borough territory has since been reabsorbed into Newark–Trenton proper. As one of only two municipalities in New Jersey without a school district (the other being Paterson), residents continue to attend public schools through special needs programs or voucher programs administered by private companies or churches. These programs have resulted in some controversy; for example, parents have objected to having their children integrated into public school districts that may not serve their interests equally well such as those located close by with more expensive schools and ample extracurricular opportunities., Leah Berkowitz is Mayor pro tem since January 1st 2019 after her predecessor John Hammond resigned due to term limits

By 1710, the population of Point Pleasant had reached 1,500 people. The town experienced some prosperity during the early 1800s as it became an important commercial center for the region. However, during the late 1800s and into the early 1900s, Point Pleasant began to decline as a result of numerous factors including economic recession and social unrest. In 1902, however,Pointpleasant regained its former prominence as a vibrant community with strong cultural traditions and active community involvement. Throughout its history, Point Pleasant has been home to many notable people including founder Nicholas de laGrange; Ulysses S Grant; Isaac Asimov; and more recently Neil Armstrong and Penelope Cruz among others.
Point Pleasant was a small settlement on the Jersey Shore that was first settled in 1764 by John Loudon. Point Pleasant was then known as "Loudoun's Landing." In 1834, it became part of Edison Township. The township was disbanded in 1857 and its land became part of Edison municipal borough. In 1898, the borough merged with the neighboring Burlington Township to form Union Township. The township name reverted back to Point Pleasant in 1959 when it merged with new Union Township to form Monmouth County.
