The first firearms in Point Pleasant were a cannon and three pistols. The first residents of Point Pleasant were Dutch, who settled in the area in the early 17th century. In 1676, English settlers arrived and began to cultivate land around what is now Point Pleasant. They soon realized that they needed to protect their new land from Native American raiders, so they built a fortification called Fort Nassau on the tip of Manhattan Island. The English also erected a wall around the town to keep out invading Native Americans. In 1802, the United States acquired New Jersey from Great Britain. As part of this acquisition, Point Pleasant became part of the United States. At this time, there were only a few small towns in America that had been purchased by the US government. Point Pleasant was one of these towns and it remained an important center for commerce and culture until after World War II. During World War II, Point Pleasant played an important role as both a naval base and munitions production plant. It was here that General Dwight D Eisenhower developed his plan for Operation Overlord, which led to Nazi Germany’s surrender at war’s end in 1945. After World War II ended, Point Pleasant resumed its former prominence as an industrial center while also becoming known for its arts scene – including music concerts and art exhibitionsitions organized byPointPleasant Public Library). Point Pleasant was one of the towns in Mercer County, New Jersey that were forced to leave their homes during the French and Indian War. The town was founded by John Stevens and his family in 1764. Captain John Stevens had come from Plymouth, England as a young man and he decided to settle in what is now Point Pleasant Township. He erected the first European-style house in Point Pleasant on December 10, 1764. The town grew rapidly thanks to its location on the Susquehanna River and its access to transportation including ferries across the river. In 1814, Point Pleasant became part of Uniontown when it merged with other villages in Mercer County. After Confederation, Pointpleasant again lost its status as a village but it continued to exist as an incorporated municipality until 1951. Nowadays pointpleasant is a small unincorporated community located within Uniontown Township.
Point Pleasant was founded by the Dutch in 1679. It became a United States town on February 14, 1834. The first post office at Point Pleasant was established in 1795. The name of the town came from the point where the river separated two farms, Old and New Point Pleasant.
