The Point Pleasant borough was formed on February 14, 1814, from the merger of two adjacent townships: Easton and West Orange. The new borough had a population of 984 people. On July 1, 1868, Point Pleasant annexed the neighboring township of Edison. The population of Edison increased by 271 people when Point Pleasant joined the borough. In 1954, the Borough Council passed an ordinance establishing a school system for all residents in Point Pleasant. On October 10th of that year, James Egan became the first teacher in Point Pleasant Schools.
Point Pleasant is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 3,769 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Toms River Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Point Pleasant was first settled by Dutch and English colonists in the 1650s. In 1714, General George Washington's army destroyed Fort Duquesne on the site of what is now Point Pleasant while besieging Fort Wharton on Long Island Sound. As a result of this event, British forces were driven from the area and American settlers began to settle here. The first store in Point Pleasant was established in 1768 by Daniel Defoe. In 1837, William Patteson donated land to form what is now University Avenue and Princeton Street in what is today Point Pleasant Township. The village became incorporated as a borough on April 14, 1852 under the name "Newark". On October 15 of that year, it merged with Rahway Township to form Mercer County. Point Pleasant has been an agricultural community for centuries due to its location near water resources and its plentiful supply of good farmland for growing crops such as corn and soybeans. Manufacturing began arriving during World War II as demand for consumer goods increased in America after the war ended; production peaked at about 1,500 jobs during 1945 but has decreased since then; however, some businesses still operate from Pointpleasant Village Hall which opened in 1984 from donations made by local citizens (the building currently hosts numerous cultural events). Many residents of Point Pleasant have active roles within their community or county government; these include public school teachers (at both elementary and high school levels), township officials (including mayor and council members), police officers/members of various departments including fire/EMS service, tax collectors/agents working with state governments throughout New Jersey as well as representatives from other municipalities located within Mercer County including Hackensack and Sayreville

Point Pleasant was founded in 1755 by Loyalists who fled British America. The town became a center of trade and industry and prospered until the American Revolution. After the war, Point Pleasant declined and lost its importance as a commercial center. However, it continued to be a local political and social center for years after that. Today, Point Pleasant is a small town with few residents but important historical significance. The first settlers at Pointpleasant were Huguenots who had left France during the French Revolution. They arrived on horseback from New York City in search of freedom and opportunity. Most of these newcomers were poor farmers who could not afford to leave their homes behind. But soon enough, some of these new arrivals formed a group called the Company for Promoting Christian Knowledge (CPCK). This group wanted to start a library in order to help promote Christianity among the Native Americans whom they encountered along their journey westward. In addition to starting the library, CPCK also began trading goods with other frontier settlements east of the Appalachian Mountains. These traders helped develop what would become Point Pleasant into one of America's most successful commercial towns during its early days.
