Point Pleasant is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Jersey City Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in Point Pleasant were three men who came overland from Connecticut in 1682 and established a trading post on the Monmouth River. In 1714, Englishman John Montresor purchased land east of where Point Pleasant now stands from Nicholas Pennant for $1,000. In 1771, Captain John Stevens discovered salt water near what is now Point Pleasant Township and named it after himself. The first school was built there in 1773; it was used as a military barracks until 1898 when it became a public school with an academy level program. In 1846, Robert Livingston bought .5 acres (0.24 km²) of land north of present day Point Pleasant Township from Nicholas Pennant for $6,000 to build a home called "Patriots' Row". Livingston donated the land to the township in 1848 and it became known as "Point Pleasant Township." On July 1st 1870 – during floods that caused extensive damage throughout Morris County – much of what is now Pointpleasant Township was flooded due to defective construction work by George Washington Bridge Company engineers working on William Barclay's new road between Newark and Elizabethtown which then crossed through Center Morristown into rural Pointpleasant Township which had been accessible only by boat or horseback because of flooding problems caused by prior rainsstorms). The bridge company engineers were criticized for their design which resulted in widespread flooding across Morris County including pointpleasant township despite promises that all bridges would be designed this way so no one would be injured or lost property whilebridgewasbeing constructed). As a result of this incident local farmers formed groups to demand better construction techniques within days resulting in government regulation ofbridge companies more closely watching future projects involving waterways

Point Pleasant was once a thriving small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. But it is now a ghost town that is only known for its Point Pleasant lighthouse. The lighthouse is one of the oldest standing lighthouses in the United States and it has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. The point at which Point Pleasant straddles the border of Hunterdon and York counties was first noted by Europeans in 1624 when they sailed along what is now Route 22. After landing there, they noted an area where a large hill stood to the east and another smaller hill to the west. They called this spot "Pleasant Hill." In 1701, Englishman James Smith discovered land at what is now Point Pleasant while exploring northernNJ during his voyage from Philadelphia to New York City. He named it after his home village of Plymouth, England. In 1719, Indian Chief Pontiacs landed at what is now Point Pleasant after raiding British settlements in present-day Pennsylvania and Maryland. Pontiacs asked for refuge among the Native Americans near Monmouth Junction before moving on to Crownpoint on Long Island Sound. British forces captured Point Pleasant from Pontiacs in 1721 during their attempt to retake Canada from French control following their victory over France at Quebec's Battle of Mount Royal. The British renamed the settlement "Pointblank" after their position on Borden Pond (now called Hackensack River) just outside of town limits - then part of North Jersey as well as part of Pennsylvania bordering both York and Hunterdon Counties. This strategic location allowed Fort Lee garrisoned with troops nearby access directly into North Jersey without having to go throughPhiladelphia or take long routes through southernNew Jersey which would have required passage through Dutch territory east of Manhattan; something that Upper Canada wanted desperately as its capital city grew closer to New York City! Point Pleasant became a part of New Jersey in 1795 and was incorporated as a borough in 1802. In 1834, the borough merged with Princeton to form the current city of Princeton.
