In 1838, Point Pleasant became an incorporated village under the name of Bound Brook when it amalgamated with Bound Brook Township to form Mercer County. In 1851, Pointpleasant again became an incorporated village under its current name when it merged with Rahway Township to form Rahway Borough Council. In 1907, Shoreacres Manor was built as one of many estates financed by millionaire industrialist John Drexel on land he had bought from his ancestor Nicholas Drexel II in 1684 for £40 sterling ($67 USD) after purchasing it from Lord Baltimore for £100 sterling ($152 USD). At that time Shoreacres Manor was one of only a few developments in North America financed entirely by wealthy individuals rather than government assistance or philanthropy. The estate continued to be managed by Mr. Drexel's descendants until 1988 when it reverted back to private ownership following his death without leaving any children behind who could manage it further

Point Pleasant is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It was founded by English colonists in 1758 and became a borough in 1876. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Sussex County were the Pennons, who arrived from England on September 20, 1757. They named their new settlement "New Providence" after Lord Proprietor of Nova Scotia, Robert Provost. The first documented settler was John Woolridge of Holland Township on December 12 of that year. In 1760, the British established an outpost at what is now known as Point Pleasant Beach and began trading with the Native Americans there. In 1763, British Colonel Nicholas Myndham erected a forts at present-day Hopewell and Princeton Avenues which served as part of the British military presence in New Jersey during George Washington's time as Commander-in-Chief of America. On October 10th of that year Captain Samuel Morison landed his ship "Eagle" at Point Pleasant Beach with nineteen men and took possession of land grants totaling . With this purchase came an increase in trade due to increased access to fresh water supplies emanating from nearby Monmouth Bayou and Atlantic Ocean beachlines. By 1800, development had begun along both banks of Atlantic Avenue with several businesses opening up including: Acker's Clothing Store (founded 1802), Richardson's Cigar store (established 1814), Wigglesworth & Hodges Barber Shop (established 1830), Neptune's Tavern (opened 1835) and finally Grosse Pointe Drugstore (opened 1938). One such business owner who emerged early on was Joshua Rogers who opened his store near today’s intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Bayonne Road back in 1800 just south of where Grosse Pointe Drugs still stands today across from Commodore Foods Distribution center/Supermarkets - providing grocery shopping for residents within hours' drive! In fact back then it was quite common for residents to do their grocery shopping not more than 3 or 4 miles away! This tradition continues to this day as Supermarkets - like Macy’s - provide groceries doorstep service today! With so much activity taking place alongshore throughout those early years there also seemed to be little need for a town site specifically for it - especially when available waterfront land elsewhere continued to be utilized for larger villages such as Princeton Junction which had been established about two miles eastside adjacent to Monmouth Bayou! However around 1800 developers started thinking differently about townships since they realized that if they could make their town attractive enough people would want to live there rather than move away when unmaintained borders changed or when other opportunities arose! So eventually a committee was formed “to establish a permanent seat upon our noble island [of] Camden” while still maintaining close ties with Philadelphia via letters patent dated January 7th,, 1800 stating “the inhabitants thereof are hereby requested by us particularly…to attend unto its government; but no person whatsoever shall vote without our leave; nor any Believer without public profession”!! The grantees selected were: Benjamin Ellicott( appointed Surveyor 9/1/1800), His Majesty’s Attorney General James Thomson(appointed Treasurer 5/9/1801), William Smallwood(appointed Trustee 2/5/1802), John Knowlton(appointed Physician 8/1/1803) – all men native born citizens who resided within the boundaries then designated by colonial authorities!! While many others later joined over time these original selections remain largely responsible for developingPoint Pleasant into one we know today! signalizing thereby its continuing importance throughout American history!!!
