When Americans invaded New Jersey in 1776, they brought with them firearms of all types and sizes. One of the most popular rifle stocks in the area was the English long rifle, which became known as the "Pleasantville Rifle." The rifle was a conventional type designed to be fired from a standing position. It had a barrel that was about 38 inches long and an overall weight of just over 5 pounds. The first use of this weapon in combat occurred on July 8, 1776, when British troops attacked a small town called Paterson. The English Long Rifleman killed 3 British soldiers and took many others prisoner before being driven off by American militia forces. From then on, this type of weapon became very common among American soldiers. In 1812, Congress passed the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which protected citizens from government infringement on their right to bear arms. This amendment helped make firearms one of the biggest attractions for Americans during World War II. In 1951, the store was bought by George Jablonski and his wife Esther. The Jablonskis continued to run the store until it closed in 1978. In 1982, the town of Pleasantville incorporated and began to buy back surrendered rifle stocks from former owners who had sold them out or given them up during World War II or the Korean War. This process continues to this day. Pleasantville is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The population was 1,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Trenton, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was first settled in the late 18th century by English and Dutch families who worked on the Morris Canal. The canal connected Newark with Trenton and through Pleasantville it ran to Princeton. The canal allowed for a continuous flow of goods from Newark to Trenton without having to go through dangerous areas near Township lines. Pleasantville grew rapidly during the 19th century as a result of its location and its connection to other large cities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. By 1860, there were more than 100 businesses in the town and it had a school, store, post office, Methodist church, Presbyterian church and two physicians. In 1875, Pleasantville became one of five municipalities within Morristown Borough; this annexation made it possible for Pleasantville to become an independent municipality with its own government and servicesinternal combustion engines were not common until after World War II when they were added to public transportation In 1916, Pleasantville experienced its first tornado when lightning struck a tree near Main Street. A second tornado occurred in 1951 but no injuries or damage occurred as a result In 1965, Pleasantville annexed neighboring Southwick Township which increased its population by about 20%. That same year saw the opening of Valley Forge High School which became one of the largest high school systems in New Jersey In 1980s-1990s several factories closed down in Middlesex County due to globalization which caused joblessness among residents whose economies depended on those jobs The current community started growing around 1990 when Manchester-based company Kress Corporation announced that it would be moving into what was then unincorporated territory east of Interstate 95 between Ramsey Road (now called) and I-95/Route 22 (now called Route 9). When Kress moved in there were already several homes built There are now over 150 people living here including many children who attend nearby schools

Pleasantville was a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, its population had decreased to 1,362. The first settlers in Pleasantville were Leland Stanford and his brother John Stanislaus who arrived in 1814. They founded a farm on the site where present day Pleasantville is located. Pleasantville was incorporated as a borough on May 12, 1868 from portions of Bound Brook Township. On December 14, 1971 it became an independent municipality named after its founder, Milton Hinton Pleasurewood Jr.. On July 8, 1984 the Borough Council voted 4-1 to merge with neighboring Paramus Township due to increasing competition for office space and dwindling population within the two municipalities. The merger did not go through because Paramus did not have enough votes to surpass Pleasantville's total number of residents (1,362). On October 2nd of that year Burlington Coat Factory fire destroyed all but one building in Pleasantville leaving no option but annexation into Paramus by vote of 7-2 majority. The only building still standing after years of restoration is the former library which opened in 2009 as part of redevelopment plans for downtown Paramus following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In 1810, the town was platted and became a dry goods store town. By 1820, Pleasantville had a population of 100 people. The first school in Pleasantville was built in 1824. In 1830, the town voted to become a borough. In 1840, the Borough of Pleasantville annexed the village of Manchester. In 1865, Pleasantville became a township and in 1870 it became an incorporated city. In 1916, Pleasantville was designated as the capital of New Jersey due to its location at the crossroads of several states with important transportation connections.
