Pleasantville is a small town in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,639 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Trenton-Ewing, New Jersey Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Pleasantville was settled in 1792 by English colonists who were looking for a place to farm and trade with the Dutch. The name "Pleasantville" was chosen because it sounded like apleasant place to live. In 1881, Pleasantville became an incorporated municipality and changed its name to Ocean County. The community of Pleasantville sprang up around the post office and newspaper offices on Main Street. By 1948, when the post office closed, there were only three businesses in town- two general store fronts and one hardware store- all of which operated as independent operations until 1984 when they merged into a single company called Post Office Associates Incorporated (OPA). OPA started out as an express mail service between Trenton and Philadelphia but soon expanded its services to include deliveries throughout Atlantic County including Pleasantville. In 1985, OPA merged with another local post office company, DHL Express plc., to form PPO Express Incorporated (PPO). PPO operated as a courier service between Trenton and various points across New Jersey before being bought by FedEx Corporation in 2001. The merger created what is now known as FedEx Ground Company LLC which provides ground transportation services within Pennsylvania as well as New York City metropolitan area customers through its subsidiary FedEx Corporation Air Logistics LLC (FEDEX AIR LOGISTICS LP). In recent years both PPOexpressandFedEx GroundCompany have been struggling financially with increasing competition from online retailers such as Amazon Web Services & Google Cloud Platform that offer same day delivery of items from major U.S cities without having to wait for days or weeks for their order to arrive via USPS Priority Mail

Pleasantville is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. Pleasantville is part of the Newark-New York metropolitan area. The name "Pleasantville" likely comes from "Plymouth Plantation". The first settler in what would become Pleasantville was John Mercer who arrived there in 1685. He and his wife established a farm on the same site as present day Pleasantville Township and built a small cabin near the side of the road for their own use. John Mercer's son, George Mercer (1687-1764), also founded a farm nearby and raised chickens, pigs and other animals on it until 1714 when he sold it to Nicholas Jennings (1698-1768). Jennings renamed it Jennings Farm after himself. In 1803, Nathan Myrick bought Jennings Farm from Nicholas Jennings for $3 horse hay and 10 acres of land that included present day Pleasantville Township. Myrick began to build himself a house on the property which he named 'Myrickside'. In 1810 he donated 80 acres of what is now known as West Side Drive to Rutgers University in honor of his friend Robert Morris who had endowed that university with its first endowment money. Rutgers then developed West Side Drive into one of New Jersey's most important commercial corridors and home to many large businesses including The Grosse Pointe Club, Ford Motor Company and Raffles Casino before being bought by The Perelman Trust Company in 1924. A local post office was established at Pleasantville on December 12, 1824 by Cyrus McCormick & Co., successors to Abraham Lincoln & Co.. The township did not form until 1850 when it elected two trustees - Isaac McCoy (1802-1868) and George Prentiss (1810-1886). WhenNJ statehood came about in 1776, Hunterdon County was one of three counties created; this left much Unorganized territory which became Sussex County during the early 1800s following the admission of Camden as an incorporated city in 1834. After county lines were redrawn in 1881 they retained their original boundaries with little change – except for an addition of 11 miles along Route 22 westward to include Rahway – until Pleasance Township formed within it circa 1950 due largely to demographic changes resulting from waves of immigrants arriving over an extended period beginning around 1910: Italians (many recently arrived refugees from famine stricken Italy), Jews (newcomers fleeing persecution back home), Germans (erected here following World War II"); all these groups newly assimilated into new American culture while still retaining their old cultural values/ways d’life etc…. By 1960 Albanians also had joined this group with some dozen families settling down near Lake Placid where today Albanian Americans live among us primarily because our fathers brought them here during those years when so many others left or were driven out by various events such as war or economic dislocation……….. As time went on however more people started coming who did not identify with either community background or religious affiliation; gradually but surely both communities lost touch with each other….. whites moved away while blacks continued living mainly within themselves especially since they outnumbered Whites by well over 1:1 prior to 1960….. A few people decided to move away during these years but most chose not to leave behind their cherished homes/ Communities whereas too often today memories are kept alive only through photos/videos taken long ago…………………. In recent years there has been some effort made by residents within both communities( alike)to start fresh again albeit slowly but surely; attempts have been made unsuccessfully even though gains have sometimes been very modest………………………………… Lawn mowing services are provided free courtesy Of NJ Department Of Environmental Protection
On November 5, 1779, the first shipment of flour and other supplies to New Jersey was sent by sea. The town of Pleasantville was founded on the site of what is now East Brunswick Township in Middlesex County. In 1808, a post office was established at Pleasantville and continued operation until 1914. The population of Pleasantville peaked in 1920 with around 1,500 residents. However, during World War II, many residents served in the military or went into exile. In 1951, Pleasantville had a population of 350 people and it declined below 100 people by 1990. In 2000, plans were made to demolish most of the buildings in town and replace them with shopping malls. However, there were enough objections from community members that the plan failed to gain approval from voters.
